The Alpha's Moonlight

CHAPTER 4

Serenity POV

I grab my towel and wipe the sweat off my face and take a swig of my water. Turning back to the watching pack I ask, “would anyone like to spar with me?”

After a few seconds I see a hand held up near the back of the group. The wolf soon stands before me and holds her hand out for me to shake and introduces herself “I am the current head female warrior of this pack, my name is Dareena Collins. Let’s see how you fare against me.”

We walk over to and open mat and Kaiden states the rules 1.) there will be no shifting 2.) no fatal blows 3.) once your opponent is down do not cause extra damage by kicking or punching 4.) the match will end when one cannot fight back or if one concedes defeat.

Taking a fighting stance, I observe how Dareena moves as we circle each other to see when she will make her first move. She moves forward at a her supernatural spend drawing from her wolf and throws a punch towards my abdomen, but before she can connect, I move just in time to evade the blow and sweep her legs out from under her. She quickly jumps back to her feet and rushes at me and lands a punch to my jaw making me stumble a few feet. I regain my balance and see her throw another punch which I deflect. Before she can try again, I land a roundhouse kick sending her to the ground. As she stands up, I see her eyes are glowing bright amber. She stalks forward and lunges for me and I grab her arm and flip her to the ground. Before she can get back up, I quickly kneel on her chest holding her down with one hand around her neck.

“Do you concede?” I ask the she-wolf beneath me. She nods and I stand up offering her my hand. She takes it and once I make sure that she is alright I look around everyone is silent with looks of disbelief on their faces except for Hunter, Kaiden and Logan who must have slipped in after the sparing started.

I grab my phone and water bottle and throw my towel into a hamper on my way out of the gym. On the way back to the guest house, I stop by the pack house kitchen to see what was being made for lunch. As I step into the kitchen, I see an envelope labeled school schedules and I open it and look for my name and grab it. After finding my schedule, I head to my kitchen to eat my breakfast and find my tablet.

I walk into my own kitchen and go straight to the freezer and find frozen Eggos and pop them into the toaster while I search for my tablet. I find it in the living room beside the television, and I walk back into the kitchen just as the toaster pops. Sitting at the table with my food I search for a map of my new school. Finding one I look at my schedule and see that I am in a few senior level classes and find the room numbers on the map as well as where parking and the administration offices are located. Once I finished planning routes to some of my classes, I go upstairs to take a shower.

After drying off I pull on shorts and my favorite sea blue Moana tank top. Bored I decide to explore the surrounding forest, and since I do not know the land, I choose to stay within hearing distance of the pack house. Because it has been a while since I have let Stella run free, I stop and listen to see if anyone is around before I shift into my large white wolf. I am larger than most wolves but just a smidge smaller than an Alpha. My family is unique because none of our wolves look normal. My fur is white, but I have opal highlights throughout my coat just like my mother. My brothers all have black fur like my father, but Einar and Kaiden have gold and silver highlights while Wyatt and Griffith have opal highlights as well, and we suspect my little brother Morgan will be similar to Einar and Kaiden’s wolves.

Hearing a stream nearby I walk to it and decide to follow it downstream to see where it leads. After a while I find myself on a rocky shore surrounding a beautiful lake. I shift back and walk along the shore for a while until I feel a little tired and sit near the shore with my feet in the water. Losing track of time, I hear Violet through the mind link looking for me, so I shift into Stella and run back upstream until I can smell the pack house. Once, I am close to the clearing I shift back and walk into my new home.

I see Violet, Quinn and Avery sitting in the living room waiting for me. Since we were younger Violet Quinn and I always did each other’s hair and makeup before parties or important pack events and Avery started joining us when she found out we were moving packs so she could get to know us better. I run upstairs and jump into the shower to wash the dirt and sweat from my exploration before slipping on my coral sheath dress. This time I forgo underwear knowing that I will have to strip before shifting unlike when I shift alone for the pack run after the welcoming ceremony. I grab all my makeup and hair tools and head back downstairs to the kitchen where I find mirrors set up for us to use.

I sit in a chair while Violet curls my hair and put half of it in a bun while Avery does Quinn’s hair. While Violet and Avery fix each other’s hair, Quinn and I do each other’s make-up then we switch and do their make-up. Once we are all ready, we go to the main house and find their mates before the ceremony begins.

During the ceremony one to the pack elders has us all slice the palm of our hands and let the blood drop into a gold chalice after we have all contributed our blood, he cuts his palm as well and adds his to the mix. Before he has us drink the mix, we recite the oath to protect and serve the pack in whatever way needed. As I take a small sip, because everyone in the pack must drink it as well, I start feeling the connections to each person. Once everyone has partook and the pack bonds are in place Kaiden announces the pack run and the women go one way and the men another to strip and shift except for Kaiden who is able to shift without shredding his cloths. I can shift without stripping, but no one is supposed to be able to unless you are an Alpha or the Luna of a pack after they have completed the mating process, so I keep it a secret. The only ones who know are my family and it will stay that way unless my mate is an Alpha of his own pack.

After shifting everyone who is able to participate in the run meets back in the clearing. Looking around I find the familiar black and silver wolf of my brother. He sends the scouts ahead of us to see if there is any trouble before the pack runs into the forest. During the run I spy familiar amber eyes watching me from a red wolf who nudges me with her nose as a greeting. I recognize the sent as Dareena and nudge her back running next to her until we return to the clearing.

Once the run is over everyone redresses and convenes inside for a pack dinner of barbeque. Sitting at the table Dareena sits by me and we start talking and I learn she is a senior in high school, and we have a lot in common. Once dinner is over, I head back to the guest house and take a shower before bed excited for the next day.
