The Alpha's Moonlight

CHAPTER 5

Kane POV

Once I pull up into my packs house I see pups running around outside enjoying the last weekend before school starts back up. As I climb out of my car, three pups come running towards me yelling my name two grab onto my legs while the third pup jumps onto my back. After all their commotion I am soon surrounded by some of the younger pack members Hazel the pup on my back asks, "Alpha can you play with us?"

“I can’t right now, but after I speak with Sean I might be able to play” I respond and all the pups groan with disappointment. Hazel and the pups holding onto me let go, but before I leave Hazel stops me “you promise to come play with us later?” I nod and they run off joining everyone else.

I walk up to the third floor and knock on my Beta’s office door before walking in. “ Kane welcome back. Have the new leaders of the Hidden Moon pack settled in yet?” Sean greets me. “Just the new Alpha and the Beta have arrived, but the rest will be arriving tonight and apparently the Alpha’s sister is joining them” I reply. Taking a seat on his office couch, Sean starts to fill me in on what the pack has been doing.

“Lastly we are almost finished planning the back to school party. All that is left is for you to sign off on the details and if you have not already done so inform the new Alpha of the it so he know where his pack has gone.”

With pack business taken care of Sean asks, “how was the stay at the Hidden Moon Pack?” “It was fine their pack is strong and resilient and their new Alpha is quite impressive. Although Onyx has been agitated ever since their belongings arrived at the pack house” I tell him. “Your mother might have an idea about why Onyx is feeling that way. The last time Asher felt that way was right before Laurie’s 16th birthday, so maybe Onyx is sensing his mate.” “Maybe, I’ll talk to my mother after dinner and see what she has to say.”

As I leave his office I see Laurie walking down the hallway towards me. “Welcome back Alpha, all of files are on your desk ready to be signed” she informs me as she enters Sean’s office. I head upstairs to my office and sink into my desk chair and start working on the large pile of files before me.

Glancing at the time I see that it is almost time for dinner. Signing an order form for the party I remember I need to call Alpha Kaiden and let him know about it. Grabbing my office phone I dial the number for Kaiden’s office. He answers on the second ring “Hello this is Alpha Kaiden, what can I do for you?” Surprised that he is still in his office I respond, “Alpha Kaiden this is Alpha Kane. I was not sure if your pack had informed you of the annual back to school party my pack throws. If not then the party is Friday night at the Crystal Moon pack house. Like in the past your pack is invited and we all hope to see everyone there.” “Thank you for informing me about this and well will be there. The rest of my family will be arriving soon, so I will see you Monday at school. Goodbye Alpha Kane” he disconnects and I head down to the small dining room.

All conversation stops as I walk into the dining room and all heads snap towards me and now. I nod towards everyone and conversations start back up. I sit in my seat at the head of the table, my mother sits on my left where my mate will sit once I find her and on my right sits Sean and Laurie along with my delta Lucas. Loading my plate with food I reach out to my mother through our mind link. Mom can I speak with you after dinner in my office. Sure honey, what's bothering you she asks. Onyx has been restless lately and I thought you might have some insight on it I tell her and she nods signaling that she understands.

Once dinner is finished, I head up to my office to wait for my mother. Not long after there is a soft knock on my door and she walks in and sits on one of the couches and motions me to join her. As I sit beside her she asks, "so what has been bothering you?" " Well for the last few weeks Onyx has been agitated and I don't understand why." "Did something happen at the Hidden Moon Pack around that time?" "The only thing that happened was the new alpha's belongings arrived at the pack house." "Okay, maybe he is sensing his mate. Is there any unmated members joining him?” Thinking out loud “his younger sister is joining him and I don’t think he said anything about her mate joining them and I believe everyone else is mated.” After thinking for a minute she say, “from what you have told me either Onyx can feel his mate nearby ,or this is improbable, but he might be sensing a new threat to our pack. You just need to stay alert for either possible outcome. It’s getting late, so get some sleep and don’t worry about it to much. Goodnight, I love you.” As she stands to leave I stand as well and say, “I love you mom and goodnight.” As she leaves my office I sit down at my desk and start working on the files still sitting on my desk.

Finishing the last report I look at the clock and see it is almost two in the morning. I leave my office and head down the hall to my room. Entering my bedroom I go straight to my bathroom to take a quick shower. As soon as the hot water hits my bare skin my muscles relax and I can finally feel the exhaustion start to take over my body. Stepping out of the shower I quickly dry off and slip on some boxers, and I am asleep before my head touches my pillow.

I’m in my wolf form running through the forest around my pack. Soon I come to the side of a lake just outside of my territory, and I see the familiar form of a white she-wolf with opal highlights from my past dreams. What surprised me was that in the past I would find her on the beach or in a dense rainforest not somewhere just a few miles from where I currently sleep.
