Mason POV
After washing my face, I make my way down the hall to hand in my key. Rosalyn isn’t there, so that’s a relief. Hopefully my words sunk in last night. I leave the inn and head towards the clothing shop.
I know exactly what I'm searching for, so I make my way right to the area. I grab the white blouse, the long gray skirt, and the bodice. I touch the soft fabric of the charcoal gray skirt. Yes, this color will really bring out Sadie’s eyes. I find my way to the back and grab a pair of shoes. I eye them up and agree they’re pretty close to her size. I put everything down on the checkout counter and grab my coin bag from my pocket.
“Mason hello!” Gregor says merrily. “It has been awhile now!”
“Hi Gregor, how are you and Alice doing?”
“Oh you know, cant complain! The summer was good to us.”
I see him gather the clothing items and look through them. He then looks back at me.
“Women’s clothing?”
“Yes.” I hope the finality of my word will let him know I do not wish to elaborate further. It doesn’t.
“Well, you chose well, Mason, but might I offer some advice?”
“I guess so.”
“Does the lady need undergarments as well or does she not need them?”
Oh s**t. I totally forgot about those things.
“Uhhh,” I start not really knowing what to say. I’m flustered. What will she think if I buy her underwear? Is that inappropriate? It's a part of the outfit. I hope I can swing that by her without her thinking I am being creepy.
Gregor smirks and says, “Mason, let me help you.”
He walks over to an area I hadn’t noticed on my way in and grabs a few pairs of white under garments. He brings them over and folds them with the rest of the dress.
“You can tell her that a woman assisted you if that will make her more at ease,” he says like he knows my inner turmoil.
“Thanks Gregor, I appreciate your help.”
I hand him the coins and shove the clothing into my bag. I practically ran out of the shop and head for Echo. I cannot wait to be back at my cottage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a weird feeling. I shake it off through my shoulders and make my way over to the stock pile in the living area. I drop off the wood I collected and sit in the chair. I really hope Mason gets here soon. I don’t like being alone here. At home, I had no problem being alone. I craved it actually, but here? No. I don’t like not knowing what's around me or out in the woods or anywhere for that matter. The only thing I knew for sure was Mason. He was the only real thing I had to cling onto. My one piece of reality in this world of confusion.
I let out a long sigh and wonder if I should attempt a bath. He technically said he would be gone until tomorrow so I have time. Yeah its settled. I need to calm myself and baths always did that for me back home. I stoke the fire before I head towards the bathroom. s**t, I need clothes to change into. I am sure Mason won't mind if I borrow a shirt or something. I go left and into his room. I open the dresser drawers until I find his shirts. I grab one out and hold it out. Its huge. But I guess I expected that. He's super tall and built bigger than me. It’ll do!
I fill the tub with as much water as I can carry from the basin before I get tired of doing it. It's not as warm as I normally like it, but it will have to do for now. I'll have to ask Mason about it later. I quickly remove my clothes and settle into the water. I tie my hair into a messy bun on the top of my head and sink down until my shoulders are covered. It feels nice to be under the water. I let the feeling comfort me. I’d kill for a glass of wine. Oh god. They had better have wine here. Another thing I had better ask Mason when he gets back.
I look quickly to the doorway. I left the thing open. Dammit Sadie we aren’t at home. No one is there but what if he gets here early. I am sure I'd hear him though. I shake the thoughts away and close my eyes. “Just relax,” I tell myself. I let the warm water soothe me to sleep.
