Mary Stuart’s large mount was ebony black with an embroidered saddle on which were emblazoned the Arms of Scotland. At least Sheena thought suddenly they need not feel that her position as Queen was ever forgotten. Everywhere that it was possible for them to be painted, embroidered or portrayed, the Arms of Scotland were to be found, in the young Queen’s Apartments, on her carriages or her servants’ Livery and indeed on her saddles.
