“Define not adding up.” The words exploded out of me before Rylan could even finish speaking. My voice cracked through Xavier’s office like a whip. I didn’t care. I didn’t care about professionalism. I didn’t care about office etiquette. And I definitely didn’t care about the look Xavier was giving me from behind his desk. “Does that mean my parents aren’t my parents?” I demanded. “Does it mean the birth records don’t exist? Does it mean somebody lied? Tell me exactly what’s in that folder before I tear it out of your hands myself.” Rylan looked completely unbothered. The man could probably watch the world end and still look mildly inconvenienced. Unfortunately for him, I was about three seconds away from losing my mind. “Reina—” “No.” I pointed at the folder. “No more vague answers.”
