As soon as Maggie had brought up the "mate situation," I just started walking back to school, both of them taking the hint and silently following me back. Once we were back inside the school, Maggie just started chatting, like we were old friends. It made me smile, I could get used to having people care about me, and caring about other people again. But mid-sentence, I stopped Maggie short. Something was wrong: in my mind, Tera, Lupa, and Vena had all started pacing. I checked in with Rega and Pira, who calmly explained that this could mean I had met my mate. We were all excited for a minute until we all remembered the reason I had lost my mom. I poked Maggie, whispered a quick explanation, and ran out of school like a bat out of H-E-L-L. But not before sneaking a glance at my mate. Could you blame me? If I was to remain a single pringle forever, I at least deserved to see him at least once. And boy, did I wish I hadn't looked. Maybe if I hadn't, things would have been different. But I did. And he was beautiful.
ASHER'S POV
I woke up to my wolf going crazy. Dude, you okay? I asked. Mate. Mate. Mate today! Aidan whined. Okay. Cool.
I hopped out of bed and rushed to school. She has to be there. I have been 18 for a few months and have kind of felt the bond at school. I was just as excited as Aidan was.
AT SCHOOL
I literally ran into my buddy, Parker.
"Whoa, dude! Slow down. What's the rush?" he asked almost in slow-motion.
I was only able to get out one word. "Mate."
"Wait, for real? Who?!" he asked excitedly.
"No idea." And then I saw her.
She is a goddess. Beautiful eyes that you can't quite see the true color of. Gorgeous, Aidan awed. Agreed buddy, agreed.
Then she looked at me. My heartbeat skyrocketed. She looked at the girl next to her, Maggie I think, and whispered something and jabbed her friend when her friend looked over in my direction. Huh. What's that about?
Suddenly my mate just bolted, running out of the closest exit she could find. Don't let mate get away, Aidan whined.
I won't.
I used my wolfy speed to get to her, but by the time I got to the exit she ran through, there was a mountain of a man in my way. I looked up and saw one of my warriors, Cane.
"Sorry Asher," he said, dropping my Alpha title for some reason, "I can't let you chase after Regina."
Regina. Regina was the name of the woman who would make my life perfect. Beautiful.
