Chapter 5: Why, Why Me?
ASHER'S POV
As I stared into the face of my head warrior, I realized he was no longer mine. Maybe he already feels the need to protect his Luna? Aidan whispered, silently pleading to still chase after our mate. I guess... I mean, that would explain his sudden change in behavior...
"And why can't I chase after my own mate, Cane?" I practically growled out. I mean, every Supernatural knows you never get in the way of mates.
Surprisingly, Cane looked like this was new information, quickly glancing at Maggie with a quizzical look on his face. She nodded slightly, and he closed his eyes for a moment. Steeling himself, he turned back to me and re-affirmed, "I'm really sorry Asher, but I still can't let you go." Now, what in the world is this fool playing at?! I was slowly descending into my wolf, Aidan taking control of our body, which could not end well.
But all of a sudden, I felt calm. Like a bucket of ice had been poured right onto Aidan's fury. As I regained control, I looked down and saw a beautiful goddess slowly retracting her hand from my arm. I growled lowly at the loss of contact, which only made her move away faster. But Maggie stopped her from getting too far, quickly whispering something to her friend. I don't care what she said, because it doesn't matter. All that matters is that my mate, my everything slowly approached once more.
REGINA'S POV
As I ran from the school, Maggie contacted me through our newly established mind link.
If you truly see us as your equals, you need to come back now. Your mate is about to tear Cane to shreds.
I debated it for exactly three seconds before I was racing back towards what my mother had warned me about all my life.
On my way, and as I sent Maggie a message back, I could feel her smile.
As I burst through the door, I saw my mate's eyes slowly turn black, which meant his wolf was in control. Once someone's wolf was in control, only their mate can calm them. And if their mate isn't around, you better run. And from what I understand, my mate is an Alpha, which only makes the situation ten times worse.
I didn't even think, I listened to my instincts. I grabbed his arm and started rubbing circles, like my mom used to do to me to calm me down from a vision. (yes I have those too, be patient I'll explain later)
As I had hoped, my mate, or Asher as Maggie had explained, slowly regained control. With the situation seemingly handled, I tried to retreat and hide again, but Maggie stopped me. She explained that we weren't out of the woods yet. Asher was still pretty fragile, so I needed to calm him further, which could be attained by further contact or eye contact. Great, so to save my new family, I need to break every single rule my mom had ever taught me, and I've only been here a day. I always thought that children were supposed to spread out how and when we disappointed our parents, as to spare them from heart attacks. Hmm...I mean you only live once right? Why not. So I grabbed my mate's arm and waited for the plague of locusts my mom always believed would happen. (not for real, but she was always the drama queen)
