Chapter 6: Quick, Check the Water Fountain to Make Sure it's Still Water!

As I stood there just holding my mate's arm, I slowly grew self-conscious. Figuring that he had calmed down enough by now, I released his arm and slowly (heh, I ran who am I kidding) down the hallway, signaling Maggie and Cane to follow me.

In a more deserted hallway, I turned and asked Cane what the heck had happened and why it had escalated so fast. I wasn't really made at them, I was mad at myself for being so weak. I knew there was nothing they could have done any differently. But me? I had known all my life that I could never, under any circumstances, be with my mate. (or else the world would end or some silly thing like that)

With a deep breath in and out, I centered myself. "I apologize. That was uncalled for. I just-" I was stopped by a bone-crushing hug from Maggie, and surprisingly, Cane too. And with no rhyme or reason, I burst into tears. I mean, I full-on bawled like a baby. And to be honest, this was my first real cry since my mom died. Before, I hadn't had anyone to put me back together if I broke down, but now with Maggie and Cane, I knew they would have my back.

After a cry that would rival Noah's flood, (gosh I sure to reference the Bible a lot for someone who is not at all Catholic...curious) the three of us headed to our next classes. Somehow, the gods had been on our side and we had all miraculously ended up in the same classes.

ASHER'S POV

As if waking from a trance, Regina removed her arm from mine, and basically ran away, grabbing Maggie and Cane as she left. What the heck is that about?

I wanted to go after her but was stopped by my Beta, Parker.

"Dude! What was that? Are you good?" He questioned. It took me a moment to care that he was talking when my mate was so close.

"I'm fine. I want you to follow and do some digging into Cane, Maggie, and my mate." If he was surprised by Regina being my mate, he wisely kept it to himself.

As if the school itself wanted to make us all move on, the bell rang. Well phooey. Guess I gotta head to class. Yeah, no. I'm going to find my mate and make her mine. Whatever the cost.
