Chapter 3: Thanks But No Thanks

My Protectors would be perfect. As we were speaking, Pira had gone into Cane and Maggie's minds and saw that Cane would be a protective but fun older brother figure to me, while Maggie would be my best friend, and like a sister.

"I'm sorry, let me explain. My name is Regina DiMagia, and I'm an essere onnipotente. It means I'm an all-powerful being and the next Queen of the Supernaturals." Giving them a moment to let that sink in, I continued. "A few months ago, my mom and I were attacked, and my mom was killed. She told me to come here, and that I should find my new family. It seems you guys are my family. You see, with every essere onnipotente, they receive one Protector of the opposite s*x, but it seems I am even more powerful, as I have you two. That's why you both were so drawn to me, it's the bond we share." I stopped, giving them a chance to ask questions.

"Okay...so what are you exactly?" Maggie queried. I smiled, proud she had asked.

"Now this is where it gets complicated, so hang in there with me. My mom was a nymph princess, who told me that I was gifted to her by the gods and goddesses. I am a part werewolf, kitsune, werecat, vampire, and sorceress. Let me think...well, my kitsune's name is Vena, my wolf's name is Lupa, my vampire's name is Pira, my witch's name is Rega, and my panther is Tera. Can I trust that you guys can keep my secret? And just so you know, this Protector thing will go both ways for me. Usually, the essere onnipotente doesn't protect their Protectors, but if you guys need me, I'm here for you. I'm no damsel in distress. The only reason I wanted to find my Protector, well Protectors, was to have a family again. I love my creatures, but it's not the same." I said, getting less confident as my little speech got mushier and mushier.

Then all of a sudden I was tackled to the ground. My creatures went on the defensive, but then I realized that it was just Maggie. She was sobbing, and Cane looked a little sad too.

"Oh no, did I say something? I haven't really talked with other people since my mom...Maggie?" I looked down, and she was just smiling through her tears.

"No silly, you're fine. I'm just sad you had to do this alone. Of course, I accept this, you're so cute!" Maggie said, pinching my cheeks as an old lady would. I didn't even fight her off, I was laughing so hard. I looked over at Cane, and I saw a silent agreement from him too. We'll get closer as time goes on, I thought, as my creatures agreed, finally happy I had found my new family.

"I think we should get back to school..." Cane said.

"Ah! He speaks!" I said jokingly, as Maggie laughed. But all of a sudden, Maggie gasped and whirled to look at me.

"What about you?!" She exclaimed. I was alarmed, then confused.

"Wha-" I started, but was interrupted by Maggie.

"What about your mate?"
