Is it going to affect me in any way?” She questioned.
They were always two sides to things; the good side and the bad one. She needed to know the disadvantages of accepting the offer.
Danny was quiet for a while, before he replied, “No, it isn’t.”
“Then I’m in.” She accepted.
“Good…” He handed her his phone. “Type in your number, I’ll forward you the details.”
She did as he said and he called the number to confirm.
“Name?” He further asked.
“Isn’t it weird that you do not know your girlfriend’s name?” Halle smirked, teasing him.
“Your name.” He repeated, his tone firmer than the first one, making it clear he wasn’t in for any joke.
“Halle.” She grumbled.
“Done. You should go home, get your things ready.” He told her.
Her brows raised questioningly, “How about the ten thousand dollars you paid for me to strip?”
“You can have it.”
Her eyes brightened immediately, “Really?”
He nodded in reply.
“Thank you, Danny. It means a lot to me.” She appreciated.
Tears bricked at the corner of her eyes. No one had ever given her money without expecting something in return, this was the first time.
It wasn’t the amount that made her emotional, it was the gesture.
“You should get going before it gets too late.” He said.
She nodded in accordance. After arranging her bag, she flashed him a smile. “Thanks once again.”
She stopped when she got to the door, it was locked and Danny was with the card.
She turned, and found him approaching the door with the card in his hands.
When he opened the door, she walked out quietly.
*******
It was past twelve when Halle got home, and fortunately for her, her roommate wasn’t at home.
She needed some quiet time, and her roommate wasn’t the type to stay quiet.
She prepared a cold bath and when she entered the bathtub, she moaned in satisfaction.
“This is so relaxing.” She muttered, dipping her entire body into the soapy water.
After few seconds, she brought her head out and opened her eyes.
Her phone which she had kept on the floor began ringing.
She peeped at the screen and when she saw it was an unknown number, she became curious.
She took the phone and answered the call, placing it on loud speaker.
“Hello?” She spoke first.
“I’ve sent you the details. You’ll sign the contract tomorrow on our way to America.” A familiar voice spoke up.
Before she could speak, the call ended.
She rolled her eyes and clicked on the iMessage he sent.
She furrowed her brows in confusion. She could remember he had a Samsung. So how was he able to send an iMessage? Perhaps he had another phone.
She shrugged it off and read the text he sent. The length of the texts was long, and she took a deep breath before reading it.
It took her about five minutes to read the whole texts. She let out a scoff as soon as she was done.
“So this is why he asked a stripper instead.” She mumbled to herself.
It all made sense to her.
“I won’t need to break up with you after my grandfather’s birthday. My family would surely run a background check on you, and when they find out about your profession, they’ll ask me to end things with you, because someone with your background isn’t fit to become a part of our family. It would be a stain to our reputation, so that’s why I need you.”
She reminisced on the last paragraph and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t hide the fact that the words hurt her.
She dropped the phone on the floor and dipped her head into the water.
Her head stayed under water for too long and she had to gasp out when she almost drowned.
“No one has the right to judge you, Halle. No.” She muttered, her voice breaking at each word.
*****
It was morning already and Halle was up, packing up her stuff in a luggage.
She was about to zip the luggage when her phone beeped. It was a text notification.
She clicked on it and the text read, “I’m outside your house. Come outside.”
It was the number Danny texted her with last night.
Her brows raised questioningly. How on earth did he find out where she lived?
She typed a reply, but ended up erasing it even before she could send the text.
She wore her flip flop and walked out of the room.
When she got outside the house, she spotted a black Mercedes and she knew instinctively it was him.
She crossed her arms, waiting for him to step out of the car. And when he did, he approached her, holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Don’t tell me you were sleeping when I called.” He said, his gaze moving across her outfit.
She shook her head. “No. I was arranging my stuff.”
When he didn’t say a word after that, she moved her gaze to the flowers. “What’s up with that?”
“Oh this.” His lips curled into a smile. “They are for you.”
Her expression turned puzzled. “For me?”
It was strange and unbelievable. She still found it unbelievable that someone offered her a million dollars deal and gifted her ten thousand dollars, now he brought her flowers?
For???? The question echoed in her mind.
“You’ll find out soon.” He answered, not detailed enough to reduce Halle’s curiosity.
“I’ll pick you up by 11.” With that, he turned and walked away.
“How did you find my house?” She inquired.
His question made his steps halted.
They met for the first time yesterday, she didn’t talk about her house address, it was so surprising he was able to locate her.
He turned to stare at her, “A little research.”
As he spoke, Halle wasn’t paying attention anymore, her eyes were fixed on the strange guy forty meters away.
He was dressed in black all through, his face covered with a mask.
Before she could realize what was happening, he took out a gun and aimed at Danny who was oblivious of what was going on behind him.
Her eyes widened, almost popping out of its socket.
Just as she was about to scream his name, the unknown guy shot him and took to his heels immediately.
“Danny!” She screamed in horror as he fell to the floor, blood coming out of his mouth.
The bouquet slipped from her fingers, petals scattering all over the floor.
