Jacqueline’s POV Janelle didn’t only claim the house, she also falsely claimed the company. Heat ran through my veins as I watched Janelle smile, and say words that weren’t true. Some stupid businessmen stood behind her, they were smiling too. She probably must have tricked them. I ran out of the room to find Alex. He was still in the sitting room, sipping on his wine elegantly. “Janelle claimed the industry.” He dropped his glass to the table. His gaze landed on me. “That’s interesting. These people are really up to it,” his voice held no remorse in it. “You don’t get me, Alex.” “I do. The company is still yours.” “They would ruin it before I would before I get there. Two years.” “They can’t.” “Alex?” He took his phone and placed a call on someone. “I would accept the position,” was the only thing he said. “So?” I asked. I did not understand what he was doing. “Wait for news,” he said. He dropped his phone, he picked up his glass and he continued sipping. He is totally nuts. This is what you get when you rely on an asshole. Frustratedly, I walked back to my room. I paced around, my blood boiling. One of the things I was always afraid of. ‘They would ruin the company.’ That reminder stuck to my head. I could remember clearly that my father almost went bankrupt because of them. He was aided by a partner— Alex’s dad. But now, my father is no more, I am not sure Alex’s dad would come through again. “s**t!” I cursed. My brain stopped listening to the news until… “This is quite nice. Billionaire business man, Alexander Ellias has agreed to become the CEO of ROD Industries,” the reporter said. Ohh ohh… This is getting interesting. Alex agreed to be the CEO. Tsk! That was what the call was about. I ran out of the room, back to Alex. “You are the CEO now?” “Yes, little Jackie,” he replied with a half smirk, half smile. “Damn!” “They can’t tamper with the company now.” “Thank you, Alex.” “Don’t do that. It’s business, nothing mutual.” Right! Business. He’d get 20% shares after two years. My body had calmed, when I returned back to the room. Since Alex is the CEO now, Janelle and Kara wouldn’t dare cross the limits, no one messes with Alex. I laid on the bed, relief washed through me. I had everything under control, maybe not, because everything seemed to be under Alex’s control. A loud rumble from my stomach reminded me that I haven’t had anything since breakfast. I picked my lazy self and I found my way to the kitchen. From my guesses, it should be the door behind the bar, where Alex was having wine. I really do not know my way around the kitchen. I always ate junk at college, seeing Alex fix up a nice meal this morning made me want to give it a push. “I could bake a cake, or a pie,” I muttered to myself, my fingers tapping on my forehead. I found a cupboard named ‘food stuffs’. There was a huge sign on it that read that. I opened it, and I took out some containers. Flour. Sugar. Milk. Butter. Baking Powder. I stared at the ingredients for two minutes. I have no idea what to prepare with them. Internet! Yeah… that’s why we have the internet. I quickly brought out my phone and I searched for ‘some simple meals to make.’ A lot of videos popped up. I smiled. Why haven’t I ever thought of this? I clicked on a video with the caption: ‘How to make a simple cake, fast and quick.’ The right video for me. I placed my phone at a corner and I watched my instructor carefully. I started with the cooking. At times I had to pause because the chef was being too fast. I finished up with the batter, and I placed it in the oven. I dusted my hands, and I held my waist in satisfaction. Then I looked around. I had already made a mess of the kitchen. Alex wouldn’t like this. Speak of the devil. Alex walked into the kitchen, his eyes ran through the mess I made. “What the f**k did you do?” His voice was stern, and kind of grumpy. “I… I… am trying to bake a cake.” “You destroyed my kitchen.” When did men start being possessive of a kitchen? “I would fix it… I am sorry.” His hands ran through his silver hair, some strands fell out of the bun, it looked kind of sexy… what am I thinking. “Fix it!” He muttered, and he turned to leave. “I was just trying to fix something, no need to be a jerk,” I murmured. I didn’t know he was an organized freak. I started cleaning up the mess. I wouldn’t love another round of him yelling at me. I made a mental note to never try this again. In a few minutes, I cleared up the mess, but I still wasn’t done with the cake. I sat on a stool, watching the oven like my life depended on it. Alex would kill me if I ever burn something in his kitchen. I used the spare time to scroll through my phone, gazing at the oven every couple of minutes. Jayden and Elliana had seen the news. Their texts bombarded my phone. ‘They took over the company too?’ ‘What do we do Jacqueline?’ ‘They would ruin the company?’ ‘I can’t wait for these two years to be over.’ They always seemed overly interested in the company and everything that had to do with my inheritance. They once told me to challenge Janelle and Kara so I could be free. They want the best for me, but time would tell. The oven dinged, awakening my senses. My cake was done, and it was smiling at me. I wore a pair of gloves, and I took the tray out of the oven. I placed it on the counter. I inhaled the sweet aroma. It smelled so nice. I jumped happily like a child. I tried taking the cake out of the mold. I didn’t know how too. I eventually did, but I made a mess of it. It doesn’t actually matter, does it? I sliced the cake, and I placed a handsome size on two plates. I had to feed the jerk too. This was the best thing I had made my whole life. I shouldn’t eat alone, so I carried the plates to the dining. The dining wasn’t in the kitchen like the glass house’s. I took careful steps. I was carrying my masterpiece, nothing must go wrong. I didn’t find Alex, I checked almost everywhere. Then, I saw him standing by a door to a room, or somewhere. He had taken off his shirt. His upper body appeared bigger. They were tattoos all over his back, his trousers hung low on his waist, dangerously low. I could run my hands through this type of body all day without getting tired. He was receiving a phone call. He was immensely focused. I stood still, waiting for him to finish. His words didn’t make sense at first, until it got to the part where he said: “She doesn’t know a thing. I have it all under control… In the end everything will be mine.” His words made me tremble. The plates slipped off my hands unwillingly, making a loud crashing sound. Alex turned to me. His eyes widened. Is Alex using me?
