CHAPTER 7: A Fleeting Laugh in the Dark Reese's POV The cool New York night air hit my face the second I pushed through the heavy glass doors of the Lincoln Center. I stood on the pavement for a long minute. My pulse was still drumming a frantic heavy beat against my ribs. I pulled my phone from my jacket pocket and stared at the dark screen. I had ignored Betty’s calls. I didn't even know why I did it but the thought of talking to her right then, hearing her perfectly polished voice, had felt completely suffocating. I scrolled past her missed calls and dialed my driver. “Bring the car around to the front. I am ready to head back," I said keeping my voice low and even. "Right away, Mr. Bennett," Th drive replied smoothly. A few minutes later, the sleek car pulled up to the curb.
