CHAPTER 23: The Call
Mrs Alvarez POV
The phone kept ringing. I had been calling Elodie over and over because Chloe wouldn’t go to sleep. She was up and kept asking for her mother saying she wouldn’t close her eyes until Mommy came home.
Someone finally answered.
“Hello?”
It wasn’t Elodie’s voice.
“Elodie? It’s Mrs. Alvarez. Chloe won’t go to sleep. She's up and keeps asking for you. She says she won’t close her eyes until Mommy comes home.”
There was a short pause. Then a man’s voice came through steady and careful.
“Ma’am… do you know the owner of this phone?”

“Yes. This is Elodie Moreau’s phone. Why are you answering it? And who are you please?”
