Sol’s Point of View (P.O.V.)
“She’s lost a lot of blood Dad how are you going to explain this to Mom,” Sol asks.
I could have sworn he told me there were only four rouges present in those woods, but I could obviously see more than twenty of them following behind Nia; silently hoping she didn’t get away.
There are rules that we werewolves must follow and one of those is the gauntlet. My father Nix is the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack and since I am his first-born son, I will be the Alpha when my time comes. He has allowed us to live somewhat normal lives and since my parents have a successful business, they were able to provide us with a great quality of life. My mother specializes in real estate and our father owns a tech company. My father changed the moment Nia was born, because she is his only daughter a Luna through birth right he wanted to see if he could prevent her from becoming well….one of us.
The day Nia was born, my father decreed that in order for a female werewolf to be accepted into the pack she must first pass the gauntlet. It has rouges and is closed off from civilization. He did place several rules within the boundary: rouges cannot kill, or they will be killed, rouges can only feast on an individual if the wall closes and the pup has not made it to the other side.
The gauntlet is a huge deal and all the females are trained warriors from the moment they can walk, this is to ensure that they are able to make it out in one piece. Part of me was furious when he mentioned Nia’s initiation because she’s my little princess, but I knew she would make it out because the three of us have been training her.
“Dad are you going to say something? You knew those rouges would go overboard the minute she walked in! She is your daughter; you condemned them to that place! What would have happened if she didn’t make it? Huh?” I couldn’t help but scream, dammit we almost lost her!
“That is enough Sol,” Alpha Nix growled, “of course she would make it she has our blood running through her veins!”
After a while Mitch decided to speak on the matter, although he was not an alpha, he was the packs Beta and he is not only well educated but he is the most levelheaded one out of the bunch.
“Look guys, don’t worry about her injuries, once midnight hits she will heal within hours. The two of you are worried about the wrong thing,” after a long pause he couldn’t help but say it, “Dad exactly how do you plan on telling her about her mate?”
If looks could kill Mitch would definitely be dead! The rest of the ride home was full of tension. Exactly how did my father plan on telling my little sister that not only is she a werewolf, but she has a mate and she was promised to him since she was eight years old. I know Nia very well and even I knew she was going to give Pops a run for his money.
The moment we pulled up to our home our mother rushed out. “Why didn’t you wake me? Where is she? Did she get hurt? I will have your heads if the three of you do not explain yourselves this instant!”
“She’s fine Mom! Has several injuries but she should be fine.” I calmly say.
“Then where is she and why isn’t she speaking for herself Sol?”
I simply moved aside and motioned for her to come to the vehicle, her eyes widened as she took the sight in. There was her baby girl unconscious in a dried-up pool of blood. Her actions were so swift that I was unaware that she had slapped our father until I heard the thud.
“How dare you! This is all your fault; you could have gotten her killed for a gauntlet you felt was needed so that our sons didn’t marry someone weak! Look at her Nix! You have two hours to clean her up and have her sitting in the breakfast nook for celebratory birthday pancakes or you will REGRET the day that you were born!” She mumbles to herself as she walked back into the house in tears.
Just then Nia began to stir, I ran to her side and waited to see if she would open her eyes or if we needed to call the Pack Doctor. As she opened her eyes she began screaming once again.
“Sol, oh my Moon Goddess Sol there were beasts in the woods they tried to kill me hurry up get your guns we have to go back it isn’t safe we….”
“Nia stop…. please calm down we need to speak” after several minutes she calmed down and looked at me with hope in her eyes. I have to give it to her my sister has the heart of a fighter.
“They are not beasts Nia they are werewolves…...we are werewolves” I slowly say. I can’t help but be nervous, what if she rejects us or gets upset.
To my surprise she just starts laughing, so hard in fact that tears begin to form in her eyes as she grabs my shoulders for support. “Yeah okay bruh, and I’m a Princess!” she says between breaths.
I wait for her to calm down and ask her if she would like proof, her expression instantly grew serious as she nodded her head yes. “No matter what happens remember I am your brother okay?” I cannot help but worry about how she would react to me.
I slowly get up, walk behind a tree, undress and shift. Several minutes later I walk out from behind the shaded area and I can’t help but whimper at her.
Nia’s P.O.V.
A wolf, I can’t believe Sol expects me to believe he is a werewolf; but fine I’ll entertain him for a while. Although my hand is bandaged, I can’t help but wonder who treated my wounds…last thing I remember was passing out and waking up in the truck. I slowly look up as I hear a whimper.
I automatically freeze on the spot! Before me is a beautiful ivory wolf, although my mind is telling me to run before, I get devoured I cannot help but admire the beauty before me.
“Sol,” I whisper as the wolf raises its head, “can I touch your fur?”
The wolf dashes towards me and begins licking my face and howling. I had a feeling that meant yes so, I began to rub his fur. “Big brother…can you come back now…. I have some questions….”
I ran towards him when he reappeared, “Sol am I a wolf too? Where is my wolf? Is it a male or a female wolf? Why didn’t you guys tell me? Do you know I could have died?”
“Breathe Nia! Please slow down and come on. I will answer all of your questions, but Mom and Dad want to talk to you so let’s go,” he gestures for me to follow him as he heads towards the house.
“Yes, you are also a wolf. You will meet your wolf soon enough; our parents need to talk to you about that by the way, but your wolf should be a female. Dad forbid us from telling you and I was not worried about you passing the gauntlet.”
I have so many questions running through my mind, but I cannot find the words to describe them. If I was being honest with myself, I was upset that they had lied to me my entire life. Exactly who am I and what other things am I unaware of about my life?
Sol stopped me as we reached the entryway to our home. “Nia, I know you have a lot of questions and all of this may be difficult to take in, but you have to realize that this is and has always been your reality.”
I hate it when he is right! “That may be true, but it does not justify the lies I have been fed for the last sixteen years Sol. Everyone wonders who they are and perhaps I would know if I was aware of a part of me that was hidden. I know nothing about being a werewolf, this other side of me and now I have to face a reality that should have been my truth all along.”
I couldn’t help but shed several tears as he opened the door to our home. I had a bad feeling that my parents were going to tell me some news that I’m not ready to hear but I was finally aware of the illusions they have fed me since I resided within their home.
