Chapter 12

425 Words
What I read left me cold-blooded. Benjamin's case was headlines in all the newspapers, and the information that was going to put him behind bars forever was laid out in great detail. It was 1:05 pm and we were in the conference room, most of us standing very close to each other because the room was too small for the meeting. "We can do this the easy way or the hard way," Theo Harvey said. Liam wasn’t talking. He wasn't even looking at anyone. In fact, he looked devastated. "Someone leaked information about a serious case our office is handling. All of you have access to the room where we keep the case files and evidence, so the guilty party is here. And as you all know, we also have cameras in the corridor facing that room, so a look back over the tapes will soon uncover the culprit. However, I would appreciate it if the person who did this comes to my office within the next hour. We will discuss the situation and decide how to proceed. Failure to own up will lead to an investigation and the police, and whoever did this will end up behind bars. You’re dismissed." He walked out, followed by Liam. My heart was beating so hard and loud, I was sure it must be audible to the others. I felt sick, dizzy, scared, and desperate. I couldn't tell Liam the truth. It would decimate him. And even if I did, would he believe me? And if he did believe me, would he understand and forgive me? Perhaps he would have once, but I’d let our relationship slide so far, I couldn’t rely on it saving me now. Also, confession might save me from the fate my blackmailer had planned for me. Once again, the very thought of him stoked my libido. What kind of person was I? I’d betrayed my boss, I was possibly on the verge of losing my job and going to prison and all my p***y could think about was c**k. I decided to say nothing and see if I could bluff it out if I got accused. Time passed. I didn't dare to go to Liam's office and nothing happened. The police didn't come and office work carried on, even if it did so enveloped by a blanket of tension. Perhaps they’d accused someone else, or perhaps the tape from that day had got wiped. I saw a weak ray of hope.
