Emily opened her eyes with her mind in a fog. She said nothing but sat there as if in a trance. The sky outside the window was very cloudy, and she couldn't see when it was.
She still had an ache in stomach, so she curled up on her side, with her knees tucked up at her chin ,like a shrimp. Maybe she was hungry, but she had no appetite.
The memory of last night was not very clear. She was now trying to think what had happened yesterday. She covered her stomach with one hand and pressed the other to her forehead, trying to recall the details.
Oh, yes, she remembered. She remembered that she was drenched with the annoying rain last night. But now her clothes were very dry, and even her hair was clean.
But it also occurred to her that when she said she wanted to go back, she fainted and had no idea what happened next. Maybe Mark cleaned herself up and changed her clothes.
This was really annoying. Something seemed to churn in Emily's stomach, making her want to vomit. Fortunately, she didn't. She moved slightly and saw the alarm clock beside her bed, showing it was after nine in the morning.
After moving her body slightly, Emily finally woke up completely, and she gradually remembered what had happened yesterday. She sat up and looked around. She realized that she was still in the hotel room, and she was alone. And just at this time, she heard the footsteps outside the door. Someone is opening the door.
Someone turned the doorknob. Then, Mark came in with something.
“Oh! Uh... Hey honey, are you awake already?” He asked with his unnatural expression , apparently not expecting Emily to wake up so soon, and then Mark stood there with a rigid smile on his face.
Emily nodded at him. She saw that Mark had a lot of things in his hands, like a lot of food, and -- a bunch of flowers.
“Hmm .... I actually just went to buy some food...” Mark raised the things in his hand, and there was a big bag. “Dear... I know you probably don't want to talk to me right now, but I beg you, please, eat something.”
He lowered his head slightly, like a child who had made a mistake, and his face contained an expression full of grievances and apologies, as if he were about to shed tears.
Emily looked at Mark's expression and she almost cried, too. This is the man she has been deeply in love with. Even though last night's lipstick has become a thorn in her heart, she still couldn't really hate Mark from the bottom of her heart.
Mark took a few steps forward and handed her the bouquet: “Dear... I don't expect you to forgive me right now, but these flowers might mean something.”
Emily hesitated, but still, she reached out to take the flowers. She remembered the same flowers from Mark on her birthday, but her mood was totally different.
She put the flower on the cupboard beside her bed and let it fall. Mark's eyes followed Emily's movements until she put the flowers down, he turned his head and refused to look at it.
Then Mark quickly passed the food to Emily. She opened it and looked inside, finding almost all of her favorite things. She habitually took out a hamburger and handed it to Mark, and Mark did not think that Emily was still thinking about taking care of him.
It took a while before Mark reached out and took the hamburger. He devoured the hamburger in a few minutes.
Then Emily picked herself a healthier sandwich. She nibbled at it and said, “That doesn't mean it's over, Mark. I want to go back, and I have to know everything. You shouldn't try to hide something from me.” The sandwich finally made her upset stomach feel a lot better.
Mark finished the rest of the burger and nodded. “Of course, I'll tell you everything, dear. I've already booked the ticket, and we'll be on the return flight in the afternoon. And now, I think we should take some time to solve those problems.”
The honeymoon was surprisingly short, lasting just a a few days. It culminated just on the third day with suspicion and distrust. Those honeyed words before marriage were like beautiful foams, just a flash in the pan.
They both finished their meal, and then the gloomy atmosphere in the room oppressed them. Neither of them knew what to say. Mark's hands were clenched into fists, as if he were about to do something. Emily looked at him quietly.
Suddenly, Mark knelt on the floor. It was not like proposing when they were in the restaurant. Mark got down on both knees and bent down, holding Emily with one hand and covering his face with another. Emily heard him cry.
“Dear... I'm sorry! I know I've done a lot of things wrong! I shouldn't have left you alone. I shouldn't have come home so late. I shouldn't have met others on my honeymoon. I know how good you are. I know that you run the whole house alone. I know how you take care of me by my side when I was sick... I felt ashamed of what I did , and I don't know how to apologize to comfort you. Maybe all the words don't matter, as long as you know that my love for you is real.”
Mark's tears plopped down onto the floor. Emily was depressed, just like the sky outside the window at the moment, but now she was startled by Mark's sudden move.
She had never seen him like this. He was decisive and capable, but now he was like a puppy who did something wrong and curled up and sobbed in front of her. Her heart was soft for a moment.
“Mark……” Emily couldn't go on because she started to cry, too. She didn't know how this marriage could have got this bad, but she didn't want to give up yet. He was the first and the only man she had ever loved.
Hearing Emily's sobs, Mark looked up, his face covered with tears. Emily reached out her other hand to gently wipe his face, and Mark held it tightly: “My dear Emily... I may have broken my promises before... I'll make a change, dear... Will you trust me again? I promise!”
Emily didn't answer, with tears rolling down her eyes. Then Mark kissed her palm, up her arm and down to her lips. She closed her eyes. A tear ran down her cheek. Mark kissed it away, then he came back to her lips. She felt her own tears, salty and bitter.
Then Mark kissed Emily with great care and he said in a soft voice: “Dear... Can you forgive me? Please give me another chance... You know how much I love you...”
Emily finally began to respond to Mark's kiss, and replied, "Just this time..." She knew she shouldn't forgive him so easily, but her emotion prevailed over reason in the end, just because she loved him.
A few minutes later, when Mark and Emily got their moods better, and the crying stopped. They stood up and put their arms around each other, and they hugged. Emily said it as if she was trying to convince herself. "There are always some conflicts between the couples, aren't there?"
Mark nodded: “Yes, there are always some little disagreements. But we will finally achieve consensus! I'll try my best to be a good husband, dear. I would even show you my heart and put it in your hand. My life is at the mercy of you.”
“Oh, my God! Don't say that... I just want you to stop lying to me.” Emily shook her head slightly.
Mark saw her compromises and he promised, “Of course, dear! I appreciate your willingness to give me another chance!” Then he took Emily's hand again. "Let's go somewhere else before we go back..."
They left the room and went back to the beach. The car they rented was gone. Mark didn't mention it, and Emily didn't ask either. They walked in silence, and after about ten minutes, they finally reached their destination.
“Honey, do you remember this place? On the day of departure, you said you wanted to see it. I'm sorry I didn't bring you here until now.” Mark stopped in front of a doll shop.
Emily noticed the store. It was a doll shop she had seen in TV advertisements when she was a child. But the price of the dolls was so expensive that Emily's could not afford it.
The doll was like a seed planted in Emily's heart. It was not until Mark offered to bring Emily to a city for their honeymoon that the seed finally began to sprout again. Because this is the country of origin of that doll, which is very well-known in the local area and even worldwide.
Even though Emily is an adult, she still remembers the doll. The doll is like something she never had as a child. Her family, like any other poor family, could only keep her from starving to death.
She could hardly stop crying again, Mark remembered everything she liked, even a word she said casually. He easily captured her heart again.
“Mark…… Thank you, dear.” Emily turned to Mark, and she genuinely accepted him again.
“Dear, as long as you are happy, I would do anything! Come on, let's go in and take a look.” Mark took Emily's hand and walked into the store.
The space in the shop was not big, but they made good use of the available space. The dolls, large and small, of different shapes and sizes, are arranged in an orderly fashion, as if they were waiting for someone to take them away. The whole store was colored with pale pink and light yellow.
In addition to those dolls, the store also joined some other decorations, such as bows and so on. But the doll itself does not look "childish," there were not many people in the store. There are also young girls walking around, except for children.
Emily picked up a doll she had seen on TV, and the price tag of more than five figures still showed its value. Even today, that's something Emily couldn't afford. She fondled the doll and looked at it over and over. Mark stood quietly beside her and asked: “How do you like it? Do you want to take it?”
“No. Let's take another look.” Unexpectedly, Emily refused him and put down the doll. At this time, a shop assistant in the store saw them and walked toward them.
“Can I help you two? The dolls here can be viewed at will, and if you want to pick them up and touch them, there is no problem.” The shop assistant smiled warmly.
“Oh, thank you. We're going to take another look.” Emily responded.
“Of course! No problem, dear. If I didn't guess wrong, you must be a couple, right?” The shop assistant paused.
After seeing Mark and Emily nod to confirm, she said," You've come just at the right time. We recently just got a new style. A pair of dolls with their chests painted with hearts. They are perfect for you. Please take a look."
Not knowing how she did that, the assistant took out two dolls that Emily had not seen before, and she continued: "As long as the pair of dolls are close to each other, they will stick together in no time!"
Then the guide tried to put two dolls together. When two dolls were in the right position, all of a sudden, the hearts of the two dolls stick together.
Mark and Emily could not help but look at each other. In fact, Mark just wanted to take Emily to buy her favorite dolls, but he was completely unaware of the new doll.
Looking at the slightly surprised expressions of this couple, the shop assistant felt that she must have aroused their interest, and she quickly went on, “You can take a look at these two dolls. The new dolls can bring you more fun and the material is also soft as usual, which is unforgettable! There is a magnet hidden in the doll's chest. The magnet is like your charms and talents, which help you two be together.”
Of course, the price is same as usual, and even more expensive than the regular one.
Mark had to take that opportunity. Before Emily could speak, he looked at her, and he said, “Oh! This is so amazing! These two dolls really suit us, don't they, honey?”
Emily laughed, too. "Exactly." So Mark bought the dolls, and he gave Emily the male doll, and he took the female one.
This decision boggled her mind. Emily felt confused, and she looked at Mark. Mark explained to her, "So we can have each other, dear." Then Mark gave Emily an affectionate hug. He finally managed to patch their relationship up.
Time passed quickly, the honeymoon came to an end, and they finally set out on their return journey. Of course, they did not forget to bring the doll which stood for Emily and Mark. Both of them looked tired on the plane, in marked contrast to their departures.
Perhaps too much had happened during the trip. Mark and Emily both fell asleep on the plane without a chance to talk, greeting the destination in their dreams.
