On the second day of their honeymoon, Mark and Emily slept until eleven o'clock in the morning. Actually, Emily was woken up by Mark's voice. A lot of unthinkable things happened yesterday. They were both surprisingly tired, especially Mark, who started coughing.
Mark was lying weakly on the bed. He closed his eyes and arms were limp at his sides. His right hand clenched on his forehead. He seemed very uncomfortable obviously. Emily waked up and stared at Mark.
“Oh... Honey, what's going on? Are you sick?” Mark broke into a paroxysm of coughing, and Emily was finally awake. She frowned at him anxiously.
“Hmm ... I'm... I'm fine ... Nothing special...” Mark's voice was starting to get husky. “It's just... Just a little cold... never mind, I'll just take a short break...” Emily looked at Mark and she saw that his eyes were still closed. His movements were unchanged, and he was obviously struggled to comfort her.
Emily pushed aside Mark's fist from his forehead and she touched her forehead to feel his temperature. The heat from her forehead startled her: “Oh, my God! It's so hot! No, you have to take the medicine!”
After that, Emily got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wet the towel, which could be put on Mark's head to cool him off. And then, she quickly put on her coat and shoes.
"You have to lie down and I will go to buy some medicine. I will come back very quickly." Emily sat on the side of the bed and talked to Mark.
She turned and was ready to go, and she suddenly remembered something, “By the way, what would you like to eat? I'll bring it to you. Hmm.... Perhaps it would be better for the patient to have some porridge?”
Mark was indeed suffering from lack of appetite now. The smell of perfume left on his shirt last night had not completely dissipated and seemed to stimulate his senses. He coughed again in pain, and answered with difficulty: “... Ok... Some porridge will do. I'm sorry ... It's our honeymoon... But I always brought you the trouble...”
"Alright, you don't have to talk. You deserve a rest after all that hard work...." Emily shook her head and turned and walked out.
Actually, no one in her life needed her to take care of, so Emily had less experience of caring for people. But Mark didn't seem to have a bad cold. Maybe she could take care of him.
There was no pharmacy near the hotel. So after asking the hotel staff, she found a pharmacy, which was not too far. In addition to the necessary antipyretic, Emily also picked out some things she might use, such as Band-Aids.
After that, Emily went back to the hotel, which took longer than she expected. She hoped that Mark can be a liitle better now with the help of the wet towel and the medicine.
After returning to the hotel, Emily did not forget to buy some porridge that Mark wanted. After all these things, her own appetite lost either. After thinking for a while, she bought the same porridge and went back to the room.
"Hey honey, are you better now?" When she just opened the door, Emily could hardly wait to ask about the situation without putting down the things in hand. But after a while, she didn't hear Mark's response.
"Oh god!" Emily exclaimed. She rushed into the bedroom, but Mark seemed to be asleep again. The towel on his forehead was still there.
She reached out to touch the towel, and found that it was a little warm because of the high temperatuare. She didn't want to wake up Mark, so she tried to pick up the towel gently with her thumb and forefinger.
Mark still opened his eyes slightly: “Dear... you're back...” He lifted a hand weakly and took Emily's hand.
“Oh, sorry, I woke you... How are you feeling now? I'll clean your towels.” Emily was worried about Mark.
He nodded slightly and dropped the hand that held Emily's: “... I'm okay...” Emily quickly got off the bed and put the towel back in the water to cool it down, then she trotted over and put it back on Mark's head.
“Now get up and take your medicine, okay? Uh... Should you eat something before taking medicine?” Emily scratched her head and pulled at the wrappings of the porridge. "Can you sit up now?" Mark nodded, so Emily helped him up and put two pillows together behind his waist, trying to make him comfortable.
“Thank you... ” Mark looked into Emily's eyes, full of tenderness.
"Hey, this is what I'm supposed to do. We're married and you're sick, I'm supposed to take care of you, aren't I?" Emily said seriously. Then she took a spoonful of the porridge to Mark and was ready to feed it to him. "Now, open your mouth - "
Mark was obviously not used to it, and he tilted his head: “Uh... Since I was an adult, it seemed... it seemed that I had never been taken care of like that...” He was going to take the spoon and the bowl, but he was too weak. Luckily, Emily held the bowl firmly. Otherwise, the hotel bed may be the first one to have porridge.
“Oh, my God! I'm glad I didn't knock it over, or I'd have to buy porridge again... Let me feed you.” Emily took a spoonful of the porridge for Mark again, and this time Mark didn't refuse, but quietly finished most of it. However, he had no appetite and refused to eat the rest of the food.
Emily wiped Mark's mouth with a tissue as if he were a baby. Then she pulled out the pills and prepared to give them to Mark.
“... It's so late and you haven't eaten yet. You go to eat first...” Mark's voice grew hoarse, and Emily could barely hear him.
"No, you are running a fever. You'll wear yourself out if you on like this." Emily kindly poured a glass of water and gave it to Mark. She read the instructions and passed some tablets to Mark.
Mark took his medicine quietly, and then continued in a barely audible voice: “You should ... stay away from me... Otherwise, you will be infected”
Emily shook her head and refused, “Honey, we've been on the same bed all night long, and I'm still fine. So don't worry about me. Maybe you should get some rest.”
Then she reached out and touched the towel, which got hot again unsurprisingly on Mark's head. She quickly repeated the previous steps and took the cold towel back over Mark's head.
Mark was still coughing, but Emily was completely unperturbed and quietly had porridge. Although the porridge was not thick and there was no side dish, Emily looked at Mark, who closed his eyes and rested, but felt relieved.
Time flew by quickly, and it took a few hours after taking the medicine. Mark was gradually recovered from the cold. During this time, Emily did not know how many times she changed towels for him. Although Mark's voice was still hoarsed, he was at least a little better now, compared with the state of torpor during the daytime.
Suddenly, Emily's stomach growled. Before saying something, there was another sound from Mark's stomach. Mark and Emily looked at each other and laughed.
Mark couldn't help himself and he laughed,“I'm starving, honey. If I had known I should have finished that porridge...” Mark curled his lips. Looking at Mark like this, Emily smiled and was convinced that he was better.
“Hmm .... Speaking of dinner, what do we eat at night?” Emily asked Mark, thinking about it. But she could not help thinking of unpleasant memories, and hoping that dinner would not go wrong again.
Mark didn't seem to forget the unhappy time yesterday, or maybe he read Emily's mind: “Uh... I booked this hotel... was not only because it is close to the beach, but also because the buffet here is very good. I'm sorry I couldn't have dinner with you yesterday.”
“It's all right, dear. We still have time, don't we?” Emily smiled, perhaps not wanting to talk about yesterday. She took the towel off Mark's forehead. The heat of the fever was relieved. She washed it and hung it up.
Mark finally got up from the bed. After washing up themselves, the two of them were fully dressed and were prepared to enjoy dinner together.
The luxurious restaurant soon came into view. It is beautifully decorated. The whole restaurant is divided into several parts, each parts has no less than ten kinds of foods. There is even a small fountain in the center of the restaurant, surrounded by candy. Sometimes, the children passing by will take some candy to eat.
It was time for dinner and there were a lot of people in the restaurant. It seemed that the buffet here is really good. Neither of them was in a hurry to pick up their meal, but they strolled in the restaurant first to see what they wanted to eat.
They indeed had quite a good range of foods. Chinese cuisine, Southeast Asian cuisine, sushi, Korean kimchi, etc. Almost all kinds of common foods can be enjoyed here. There was also a special seafood area. They have both sashimi which can be eaten without cooking adn processed seafoods.
Although this may be a little bit embarrassing, it was actually Emily's first experience of having a buffet at such a luxurious restaurant. She wasn't sure about the right steps, so she stopped and just watched the people around her.
They walked around with plates of food in their hands. As if being aware of Emily's embarrassment, Mark lowered his head and asked softly, "Honey, have you decided what to eat?"
“Hmm.... I'd like to try some foreign foods. Maybe it is not suitable for me, but I'll eat it all.” Emily stared at the plates of foreign dishes and asked Mark, "How about you?"
“That's great. I want to try them, too. Darling, we are indeed a perfect match!” Mark smiled slightly. He led Emily to the foreign dishes and taught her how to take foods, and then they took several dishes. They found a decent empty place, and began to have dinner.
Emily took the Southeast Asian cuisine first. The name of which seemed to be... "Lemon shrimp," a few pieces of shrimp with half a slice of lemon, and there were some toppings like chili.
She picked up a piece of shrimp with a fork and put it in her mouth, but her expression was not so enjoyable. Emily is not keen on spicy food. The spicy flavors and a strong acid taste are frowned upon for Emily.
"Uh, that's kind of weird." Emily quickly took a sip of water. Although it is not taste bad, it is indeed the flavor she does not like. Fortunately, she was mentally prepared and didn't take too much, and it should be no problem to finish them.
Seeing Emily's face, Mark laughed: “Oh, look at your face, dear! You look like a little duck who couldn't find her mom right now.” He also picked up a piece of lemon shrimp, but his expression looked much more normal. It seemed that he likes this cuisine.
After all, as the CEO, Mark also has a lot of experience having meals with clients from different countries. He had tasted many foreign dishes, and several of them had already made him feel very good, including this lemon shrimp.
Emily was not convinced: "Hey, it was an accident!" She tried to eat a piece of Mapo tofu. It is said that the Mapo tofu in this restaurant is an official version by a chef from China, not the modified one. But apparently, the fork not only failed to pick up the tofu but also split it in half.
Mark almost laughed, but he seemed to care about Emily's mood. He just cleared his throat, and then took a spoonful of tofu from Emily's plate and handed it to her mouth: “Come on, darling. Let me feed you, even now you are healthy.”
Emily ate the tofu shyly, and then she coughed because of the spicy taste: “Oh! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! This tofu can be used as a weapon!” She quickly picked up the glass of water and drank it all. At this time, her face quickly flushed, like a cooked crab.
Mark burst out laughing. "Sorry, honey! I forgot to remind you that this dish is very spicy.” Emily was so angry that she put down her glass and tried to hit him. Then the two of them enjoyed their dinner in this happy atmosphere, or perhaps only Mark enjoyed it.
It's getting dark, and the people in the restaurant had finally dispersed. Mark and Emily decided to go for a walk to the beach and relax.
Perhaps it was the quiet sea at night that made their moods gradually calm down, and now there was no atmosphere of joking and laughing. The two of them walked along the beach quietly. Mark took Emily's hand and asked, "Emily, are you still mad at me?"
Emily turned to look at Mark, then looked away: “No. I just feel a little uncomfortable...” She didn't take out the hand which was holding, but she didn't take Mark's hand either.
"I know. I'm the one who makes you feel uneasy, scared and uncomfortable." Mark stopped and turned to stare at Emily. “I'm sorry, I didn't keep my promise... But I still want you to believe me, you know that's because I love you. The love will not disappear even after thousands of years.”
Emily stopped and gazed at the depths of his eyes. “Yes, I know. I love you too. No matter what happens, I'm always willing to trust you, dear.” She took Mark's other hand, then stood on tiptoe and kissed him lightly on the lips. Mark lowered his head slightly and kissed it harder.
A slight breeze was stirring the branches. The moon shone through a break in the clouds, casting soft shadows on Mark and Emily. Beneath the silvery moon, the sea is more attractive.
