Damages

Scarlett POV                 Deva continued to the lick at Alpha Nolan’s wounds while I started to mind-link anyone I could think of. I was getting frantic trying to find us help. Even though in our wolf form Deva was the size of an Alpha, there was no way I would be able to get the Alpha through the c*****e surrounding us without assistance.                 A moment later Alpha Nolan shifted back into his human form. Deva allowed me to take control back shifting us back to our human form as well. Adrenaline continued to pump through my veins as I looked the Alpha over trying to assess how severe his injuries were. My hands shook a little as I attempted to put pressure on the wounds near his neck. My right arm was cut badly and still bled steadily.                 “HELP!” I screamed. Waiting mere moments before screaming out for help again and again. “HELP!” I tried to pull the Alpha up with me. He was so heavy. Even with regular training carrying the dead weight of the large man with my own injuries could be a struggle but I didn’t have a choice.                 Slowly I took single steps forward dragging Alpha Nolan with me. Each step made every muscle in my body burn more. “HELP!” I screamed out again hoping someone would hear me over the barks, growls and over all sounds of the c*****e that was surrounding us. I kept moving us forward slowly but surely towards the pack house. If I could just get him to the hospital perhaps Dr. Grace could save him.                 Everything around me seemed to move in slow motion. I almost hadn’t noticed a group of wolves bounding up to us. They shifted suddenly. Carter, Lily and Beta Adrian stood before me. “What happened, Scarlett?” Carter asked with a frantic voice, the heavy alpha power nipping at his words. I couldn’t tell if he was panicked or if he was angry. Beta Adrian and Carter both took to a side of Alpha Nolan, pulling is arms from me and supporting his weight. Lily quickly looked over his wounds. “We don’t have time for questions, Carter, he needs my grandmother, NOW!” She demanded. I watched frozen in place as Carter and Adrian rushed off with the Alpha heading to the hospital.                 The fighting around us had seemed to stave off. From what my dull gaze allowed me to see it seemed the warriors were finishing off the last of the rogues that had attacked. I met Lily’s brown eyes certain the dazed look hadn’t left my face before I collapsed falling to the ground. The world around me slowly fading black. ----  Carter POV                 I rushed with Adrian into the packhouse certain the warriors had everything else handled. I needed to focus on my father. I had trained to be Alpha, but I wasn’t the Alpha yet. Our pack needed him to survive. I needed him to survive. I wasn’t ready for this yet. We drug my fathers weakened nearly lifeless body to the pack hospital where Nurse Rose met us with a stretcher. Together we lifted him onto the bed.                 “Is he going to die?” I whispered to Evan. I had to remain calm as the now acting Alpha. My father was injured. The job automatically fell to me until he was healthy enough to return. But with Evan I could face what I was really feeling.                 “We can only hope the Goddess blesses Dr. Grace with the ability to save him. He is severely wounded and barely clinging to life. I could smell the coming death on him. I’m so sorry, Carter.” Evan responded with wisdom and logic. I could feel myself breaking a little.                 I spun around now ignoring Evan. I couldn’t discuss this now. “Beta Adrian, take inventory of all injured and dead pack members. Also, have the warriors take any surviving rogues to the dungeon. We need to jump to action immediately a find what happened before we can be attacked again.”                 “Yes, Alpha Carter, I’ll get on that right away. “Beta Adrian spoke concisely before adding in an almost soft whisper. “He’s a fighter, Carter, he will pull through.” As he finished speaking, he turned and left the lobby.                 “Gamma Harry, are you okay? “I linked the older gamma realizing I hadn’t seen him since the fights broke out. I needed to see how he was so I could dispatch him as well otherwise I would need Scarlett to step up into his role.                 “I’m on my way to the pack hospital, Alpha. “He responded curtly. “Where am I needed?”                 “Dr. Grace has taken my father into the treatment room. We’ve had no update. In the meantime, we need to check the pack territory borders. I need to know why they were able to get through, and if we have the manpower, we need additional patrols to prevent a secondary attack. I need you to oversee this.” I explained as quickly as I could.                 Finally, I moved towards a nearby closet finding some shorts stashed in there. We often had clothing stashed around the grounds to allow for modesty after returning to our human forms. I pulled the shorts on quickly before allowing myself to fall into the near by waiting room chairs. I held my head in my hands trying to determine what my next move would be.                 Suddenly the doors burst open with a wild haired Lily busting through in the same moment. “Carter, I need help!” She yelled as soon as she saw me. I jumped up and rushed over to her.                 “What’s going on, Lily?” I asked.                 “Scarlett, she collapsed.” Her words were scattered as she breathed heavily. She must have tried to bring her in by herself. I ran out past her in the direction of where I had seen Scarlett last finding her crumpled on the floor just inside the back doors of the pack house. Lily was hot on my heels. I scooped the small blonde up into my arms and ran back to the pack hospital. “Lily, you’re going to have to jump in until we can get another doctor to the pack hospital.” I explained as we rushed back to the clinic waiting area. Lily bolted up ahead finding another stretcher. When she brought it out, I carefully laid Scarlett down on to the stretcher. Her body was burning up. Wolves were naturally warm but touching her felt like touching something that was too hot. It was almost relieving to put her down. I sighed heavily with defeat watching as Lily rushed her into an exam room. Scarlett’s arm had still been bleeding so I was sure she likely passed out from either blood loss or from her wolf exerting too much energy to heal her. It had to be that. We couldn’t afford to lose both our Alpha and future Gamma.
