In the corner of the room, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, stood Mark Adrian Gallo, his dark eyes watching her intently.
“Good, you’re awake,” Mark said calmly, his voice a mixture of cool control and something darker beneath the surface. He stepped forward, moving closer to her bed.
Selena’s breath hitched as she backed up against the headboard, her pulse racing. “Where am I?” she demanded, trying to keep the panic from her voice. “What do you want from me?”
Mark didn’t answer immediately. He pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down, his eyes never leaving hers. “You’ve caused quite a mess, Selena,” he said, his voice measured, almost disappointed. “You’ve disrupted everything with your little stunt at the wedding. My grandfather was expecting a grandchild. He was expecting me to take responsibility.”
Selena swallowed hard, her chest tightening. She tried to stand, but her legs were shaky. “That was… that wasn’t supposed to—”
“It wasn’t supposed to go this far, right?” Mark interrupted, his voice growing colder. “But it did. And now we have a situation to deal with.”
He paused for a moment, his gaze intense as he leaned closer. “My grandfather doesn’t have much time left, and he wants to see me settled. He was excited at the thought of a grandson, and I can’t disappoint him.”
Selena’s heart raced. She could see where this was going, and she didn’t like it. “I’m not pregnant, Mark,” she said, her voice trembling. “I never was. It was all a mistake, a lie. I… I did it for someone else.”
“I know you’re not pregnant,” Mark replied coolly, as if he had expected her answer. “But that doesn’t change what happened. You’re the one who made the lie believable. Now we have to live with the consequences.”
Selena’s hands clenched the sheets, trying to process his words. “What are you saying?”
Mark stood up, towering over her. “I’m saying I want you to be my wife, Selena.”
The words hung in the air like a thunderclap, and Selena’s eyes widened in shock. Her pulse raced as her mind spun, trying to make sense of what he had just said. *His wife?*
“What?” she whispered, shaking her head in disbelief. “You can’t be serious.”
“I’m dead serious,” Mark said, his expression hardening. “My grandfather wants to see me married, and he was expecting a grandchild. If we do this, we can make things right. You’ll play the part, and he’ll get what he wants.”
Selena’s body tensed. “No,” she said, shaking her head vehemently. “I can’t… I won’t do that.”
Mark’s jaw tightened, and for the first time, anger flickered in his eyes. He took a step closer to the bed, his hands curling into fists. “You don’t get to say no, Selena. You started this mess. You came to my wedding, you made everyone believe you were carrying my child, and now you’re going to fix it.”
“I didn’t mean for it to go this far!” Selena’s voice cracked as she spoke, her fear bubbling over. “It was all a lie to help my friend. I’m not the person you think I am. This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“But it did.” Mark’s voice was low, dangerous. “And now you have to face the consequences.”
Selena’s breath came in quick, shallow bursts as panic gripped her. “No,” she whispered, shaking her head again. “I won’t marry you.”
Mark’s face twisted with frustration. His hands slammed down on the edge of the bed, causing Selena to flinch. “You think you have a choice?” he hissed, his voice dark and menacing. “Do you have any idea what you’ve done? You humiliated me, humiliated my family. My grandfather is dying, Selena, and you’ve shattered his last hope of seeing his legacy continue.”
Selena’s heart pounded in her chest, her mind racing to find a way out of this nightmare. “I… I’m sorry,” she stammered. “I didn’t mean to—”
“I don’t care about your apologies!” Mark’s voice thundered, his patience wearing thin. “If you hadn’t pulled that ridiculous stunt at the wedding, none of this would be happening!”
Tears pricked at Selena’s eyes as she looked up at him, her mind scrambling for a solution. “Please, Mark,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “There has to be another way. I can’t marry you. I don’t love you, and you don’t love me.”
Mark’s eyes narrowed. “This isn’t about love,” he said coldly. “This is about fixing what you’ve broken. And if you think you can just walk away from this without consequences, you’re wrong.”
Selena’s throat tightened, and she looked away, trying to blink back the tears that threatened to fall. Her mind was screaming at her to run, to find a way out, but there was nowhere to go. She was trapped.
Mark watched her, his expression softening slightly as he took a step back. He let out a long, frustrated sigh, rubbing a hand over his face as if trying to regain control of his temper.
“I didn’t want it to come to this,” he said, his voice quieter now. “But you’ve left me no choice. My grandfather won’t live much longer, and I won’t let him die disappointed. If you don’t want to marry me, fine. But you’ll stay by my side until I figure out what to do.”
Selena’s stomach twisted with dread. She could feel the walls closing in on her, the weight of the situation suffocating her. She couldn’t marry him. She couldn’t stay with him. But how could she escape?
“I can’t stay with you,” Selena whispered, shaking her head. “Please… just let me go.”
Mark’s expression hardened again. “No. You’re not going anywhere.”
Selena’s breath caught in her throat, her fear spiking as she realized the full gravity of her situation. Mark wasn’t just angry—he was obsessed. He wasn’t going to let her leave, no matter what she said or did.
“This is insane,” she said, her voice rising with desperation. “You can’t just keep me here. You can’t force me into this.”
Mark took a step closer, his eyes dark and unyielding. “I can, and I will. You brought this on yourself, Selena. Now you’re going to face the consequences.”
Selena’s heart pounded in her chest, her mind screaming for a way out. But there was none. Mark had her cornered, and there was no escaping his twisted sense of justice.
“You’ll stay,” Mark said, his voice leaving no room for argument. “And you’ll do as I say. If you refuse, things will only get worse for you.”
Selena felt a cold wave of dread wash over her. She had no choice. She was trapped in a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from, and Mark wasn’t going to let her go.
Her eyes filled with tears as she realized the full extent of her situation. There was no escape. Not from Mark Adrian Gallo, and not from the consequences of the lie she had told.
Mark’s gaze softened slightly as he watched her, but his resolve remained firm. “I’ll give you some time to think about it,” he said, turning toward the door. “But make no mistake, Selena. You’re mine now.”
With that, he walked out, leaving Selena alone in the room, her mind racing with fear and despair.
