Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Freybelle’s POV I knew Nathan didn’t trust me, and rightly so, an entire coven of witches had captured and tortured his leader, not to mention that coven was related to me. I knew he believed me though and that was enough for now. I wanted to show him that magic could be used for good so when I did my nightly ritual of healing tonight, I would ensure he could see it, even if it did mean I had to be naked. However, before then, I had another idea. “When will the storm stop?” I asked, calmly, knowing I could stop it for a few feet around us for a short time if I wanted to. That wasn’t my plan though. I wanted to show him how the snow could be used if he would let me. “Probably in a few days.” He grumbled. “And do you know what date it is?” “I think it’s the 12th. Why?” I smiled widely and I saw his eyebrows furrow. He really hated me smiling and I had no idea why. “Perfect! That means it’s a new moon tonight, I hadn’t been paying attention. I can make some moon water with the ice and then I can show you how to snow paint and if were lucky there will even be some snow sprites I can introduce you to.” I looked at a very confused Nathan and laughed again causing the wave of annoyance to hit me again. I would ignore it. I knew there was a sweet and soft teddy bear under that icy exterior and I knew I could get him out if I wanted to. I got dressed into the thick coat that Nathan had bought me and noticed that Nathan wasn’t putting a coat on. I didn’t ask but I had read that a wolfs body temperature was a lot higher than humans. We exited the cabin, and we were immediately buffeted by icy winds and snow. I motioned for Nathan to stop and then walked a few feet away from the cabin. “Frey…” I smiled at that. He hadn’t finished my name. I liked the nickname. I ignored him though and continued. I drew in the sight around me and knew I had enough power to stop the blizzard from hitting the cabin for a few hours before I would need to rest. I sat in the snow, my legs crossed and began chanting a few words as I traced runes in the air. Thorn to help with concentration and meditation as I channelled the energy from the blizzard. Raidho to bring about a change within the storm. Hagall to bring clearance to the area around us and finally Iss to encourage the withdrawal of the storm from the area. Despite me calling up on everything, if the storm didn’t want to move away then I wouldn’t be able to force it. White witches worked with nature, not against it. “What the…” I heard Nathans gruff voice say as I sensed the storm clearing from around us. I felt the weather dancing joyfully around the 30-foot barrier we now had around the cabin. “I wanted it to be calm and clear so I can maybe show you a few things.” He looked at me curiously, and I felt fear but also curiosity within him and smiled. He frowned again but looked around in awe. “You did this?” I nodded. “Not that I would have been able to if the storm refused. But shes being nice.” “The storm has a gender?” He asked, surprise washing over me. I laughed and nodded. “Come, I want to show you how to find snow sprites.” Nathan’s POV This small woman had literally cleared a blizzard by just sitting in the middle of the storm. I knew there were reasons to fear witches before the incident with the coven, but I hadn’t known the extent of their powers. Then for Freybelle to say that she spoke to the storm was preposterous. You talk to me. I heard Blazr chuckle in my head and cursed him for laughing too. Why was everyone so joyful. We were stuck in the middle of a blizzard. I was on a mission to find out about the coven and Freybelle had been seriously hurt. How could she laugh so freely, it was annoying, and she knew it. I saw the glint in her eyes as she laughed. She was currently dragging me to a large bushy area, intent on showing me something I was pretty sure she was imagining. I had never seen or even heard of sprites. As she was knelt down, rummaging in the bush I was looking around, still star struck that we were stood in what appeared to be a bubble of calm. The storm was still raging outside of the bubble. Then I heard an excited shriek as she came up with her hands clasped together. “A snow sprite!” She exclaimed. She gently opened her hands and spoke some words in a language I didn’t understand. “He says he doesn’t like werewolves… Well, that’s not nice.” I couldn’t hear anything but peeked into her hands. Sat in her hands with its arms crossed tightly and an angry look on its face was a… “Is a fairy.” I exclaimed. The fairy then got up and seemed to be speaking to me but all I could hear were high pitched screeches. I heard Freybelle laugh as the sprite suddenly flew from her hands, pointed in my face a few times then flew back into the bush. I looked at Freybelle with awe and shock. “What the…” I didn’t finish the sentence. “He got angry. He isn’t a fairy… well technically he is but they hate being referred to as such. Sprites are fairies that are a subspecies. They thrive in water. Snow sprites live exclusively in snow. When the snow leaves, they also leave… I don’t know where to though, they won’t tell me.” She chattered on and I was so confused. How had I never seen those things before, my face must have given me away because Freybelle had stopped chattering away and was looking at me with her brows furrowed. “Why don’t they like werewolves?” I asked to ease the tension I was feeling with her staring so intently. “Oh…” she laughed nervously. “He said you smell gross…” I didn’t know what to make of that, but I laughed out loud and saw Freybelle turn from cautious to laughing along too. “Well, hes not wrong.” Freybelle’s POV I had been keeping the storm at bay for well over an hour now and Nathan had been walking around, sticking his hand in and out of the bubble. It made me chuckle every time his face got that confused look. I finally decided to collect some ice to turn it into moon water and grabbed one of the ceramic bowls from inside. I purified it with salt before bringing it out and then starting cracking icicles off the windowsills of the cabin. “What are you doing?” Nathan asked. “I’m collecting ice to melt down inside before I purify it under the new moon tonight. I have another healing ritual to complete tonight, and the moon water will help a lot.” He looked concerned. “Healing? To get rid of the scars?” “Yes.” I nodded, continuing until I had a full bowl. “I was hoping I could show it you… so you can see how I can help your Luna.” I said, not looking at him, ready for a reaction. I felt a wave of intrigue, followed by caution and finally acceptance. “Ok.” He said, firmly and I turned to smile at him. “Great. I hope youre not shy.” I answered with a smile before skipping inside. I felt worry emanate from him. “Hurry up and get in. I’m dropping the protection spell.” I giggled as he ran inside, and the storm hit us again without warning.
