Chapter 31 Freybelle’s POV I was sat outside Ashers cell, tears streaming down my face. He had refused to talk to me for the past three days despite me begging and trying everything. I wanted him to understand he was being lied to and to help us willingly. He wouldn’t listen though. Tomorrow was the final day before I would use him to do the scrying spell on my behalf. It required me binding him to me, his body and soul, and he would hate me for it, but at least the coven wouldn’t know it was me or the pack, looking for them. They would assume he had gotten lost and needed to find his way back to them. Then the Alpha had made it quite clear he would be killed after, even if he willingly helped. Even if I could prove he had been spelled. Id tried to reason with him and plead with Asher to help us but neither of them would listen. Nathan was down the hall, speaking to a guard about the plan for tomorrow. I didn’t want him seeing me cry again. He was already worrying about my mental capacity and willingness to take part in this fight after the other day. “Freybelle?” I heard a feminine voice call to me and saw Dawn. I immediately wiped my tears and stood to greet her. She was bringing Asher food. “Hello Dawn. Thank you for taking care of him…” I said, knowing it wouldn’t be for much longer. She nodded and I felt a wave of sorrow come over me. I looked at her with interest, she was feeling sad over a witch. One who was hell bent on hating us all and purposefully being horrible to us all at every moment he could. I sighed as she gave him the food only to have it thrown against the wall once again. He hadn’t eaten in three days, only drinking water to keep himself alive. “No mater what I say, he refuses food.” She said and I nodded. “I don’t know him well. But hes always been stubborn but he was loyal to my mother… not that that’s got him anywhere good now.” I said with bitterness in my voice. I wanted to get answers. I didn’t want the wolf pack to s*******r an entire coven if none of them actually knew anything about what was happening. I also wanted to know more but I knew I couldn’t find that out without talking to my mother and if I did, I guarantee the Alpha would spin it that I was on their side all along. I felt useless. “Well… I guess he will be out of his misery one way or another soon.” She said and again there was a wave of sadness and a hint of guilt. “I guess that’s one way to look at it.” I said, bile rising in my throat. I guess being pragmatic was better than constantly being sad. He would be dead soon either way, either at the alphas hand or through starvation and if he did make it back home, then probably by my mother’s hand for being a traitor even though he’d said nothing. I sighed heavily. “I’m sorry you’ve ended up in the middle of all this.” I smiled at her. “You’ve nothing to say sorry for.” I chuckled and she did too. “No, I just meant, I feel sorry for you. You didn’t ask for this and from what I’ve seen and heard, you don’t deserve this. Nathan is lucky to have found you Freybelle.” She said, a sad smile on her face. “Thank you, but I think it’s the other way around.” I sighed, staring down the corridor at him. “You truly are mates then?” She asked and I nodded. “Good. I can’t deny that I was jealous at the start, hoping he would take me as a chosen mate, but I knew how much he wanted a mate. I’m glad you finally came along.” I smiled at her, feeling her regret but also the happiness she truly felt. “I don’t want to see him get hurt ever, please look after him…” I nodded. “I… of course I will, with my life.” She nodded and began walking away. “And Freybelle?” I looked at her with concern as I felt the air shift. Her tone turned serious, and I felt apprehension “Watch your back when you attack the coven.” Then before I could ask further questions, she ran out of the cells. Nathan’s POV “She said that?” I questioned as Frey, and I walked to the training grounds for our last session. “She did… I’m worried that something will happen now. What could she know?” Frey said, her nerves shot as she nervously chewed her lip and wrung her hands in circles. I wasn’t sure what Dawn could mean but I would try and find out tonight. “I need to go and prepare for this evening healing ceremony. Would you mind making me some food after training, something light?” Frey asked and I could tell she was still thinking about Dawn’s warning. “Of course. Frey, stop worrying.” I said, grabbing her hands to give her comfort. “Nothing will happen to you. I promise.” “It’s not me I’m worried about.” She said before wandering away. Sam was accompanying her. Despite the pack trusting her and even the Luna, the Alpha was still adamant that she needed to be escorted everywhere, and Sam was taken with her like a little puppy. I chuckled as he trailed behind her, heading to the house. I worked with the pack warriors but mostly we talked. I advised them everything I knew about witches and everything Frey had told me since. The wolves were all on edge, but they seemed eager. Then I explained what would happen tomorrow. I told them all to be ready and expect to move out at any time. Once we had finished, I let them go early. There was no need to train more, they’d done everything they could, and they needed a day before we potentially went to war. I sighed heavily as the Luna walked towards me. “Luna.” I bowed and she tutted but didn’t pull me up like normal. “Is everything ok?” She asked, but she looked nervous. “Yeah, fine.” I said, not sure what she wanted to hear. “What about you?” I asked and she deflated a little. “I’m worried about Fenn… He’s…” “Different? Angry? Losing it?” I offered; my face serious as I looked at her. She sighed again. “Yes, no… I don’t know. Hes been locking himself away in his office and the only person allowed to enter is Jack. He said hes making plans for the best way to get there and who to take but I know youre in charge of that and already have plans, plus the warriors might listen to him but they look to you for battle commands…” She was definitely nervous. “You think hes planning something we don’t know about?” I asked and she nodded. “I do and I think it involves Freybelle. You need to ensure she is within your sight at all times.” I nodded; I had intended that anyway. I headed home, to find Freybelle meditating in the front of the house, her hands and feet planted in the ground. She was completely still, and I smiled at how calm she looked. I skirted around her and saw Sam. “Everything ok?” I asked and he nodded. “Shes not moved in over an hour.” He smiled and I nodded, knowing she could be there another hour. “Go get some rest, I’ll take over from here.” I smiled and he nodded, taking one last look at Frey before leaving. I stood watching her for a few moments, taking in how beautiful she was. I knew I was lucky, despite everything that was being thrown at us. I headed inside but made sure to leave the door open so I could keep an eye on her. I prepared a light soup ready for when she was finished. Freybelle’s POV Colours were swirling around me as I floated in a sea of clouds. I was completely at peace and at one with the elements here. It was a peace I didn’t feel often but it was something I loved to do when I had the chance. I felt a presence watching over me and I knew Nathan was home, probably making us food while he waited for me to finish my meditation. I smiled, loving how I could be aware of both worlds at the same time but still be completely at peace. “Freybelle?” I heard a voice say gently and I was confused as to how someone could speak to me here. I sat up in my cloudscape and looked around but could see nothing. “Freybelle?” The voice again. It was calm and sweet and even though I didn’t know it, I felt like I recognised it a little. “Hello?” I called out, wondering how someone was able to break into my meditative state. “Finally. Ive been trying to contact you for days.” The voice said and then suddenly a woman appeared in front of me. She wasn’t fully formed but I could make out pointy ears, like an elf, a pair of wings and long blonde hair. She was incredibly short but kept flitting in and out as if glitching on a TV screen. “I wanted to speak to you. I will be your guide once you finish your personal mission. I can give you a map to find my retreat that is safe. My name is Erikwa, and I would like to speak more.” “How?” I asked, looking at her with confusion. “Once you are marked and have finished the healing spell, enter your trance again and I will be able to speak to you again. Tell Nathan about me too so he isn’t shocked when I try to contact him.” I nodded, not really sure what was happening, but I assumed this had something to do with Merena. I was pulled out of my trance earlier than I would have liked but I knew it would be enough. I sighed and got up to the smell of vegetable soup and freshly baked bread. My stomach rumbled in anticipation. “I heard that from in here!” I heard Nathan shout with a chuckle. Damn his wolf hearing. I skipped inside, suddenly feeling happy and no longer apprehensive. Something within me said that if a goddess and a strange fairy being had hope for me reaching them after Id found my coven, then I assumed I would be safe. Merena might be a new goddess I hadn’t known but I knew the gods didn’t lead me astray, they never had. “You’re in a good mood.” Nathan smiled, greeting me with a hug and kiss. “I really am… its strange but I feel like I could do anything.” I smiled, hugging him tight before grabbing my bowl of soup and taking a large gulp directly from the bowl. “You really are a great cook you know; I’ll keep you just for that.” I teased as I sat down at the dining table. “You aren’t funny.” He said but I could see him trying to keep a smile off his face as he joined me at the table putting down the bread and butter. I took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of the freshly bake bread. “I met someone in my meditation trance today…” I said, trying to keep my tone casual. “She said she was called Erikwa, and she was contacting us to guide us to a safe place after we left here…” I looked at him for a reaction. He didn’t seem surprised, only curious. “That’s if youre still coming with me?” He tutted. “Of course, I am. I go where you go, no matter what.” I smiled and finished my soup. I don’t know why but I felt like I could do anything tonight and I would do just that. Heal the Luna, get marked and then talk to Erikwa before the terrible things happened tomorrow. I reached over for Nathans hand and he gave me it, squeezing mine reassuringly.
