Chapter 21
Freybelle’s POV
I spent the morning prepping everything I would need for this evening. I had given Nathan the instructions that the Luna needed to do before I got there. She would need to bathe in some herbs I sent along and wear an extremely light dress, preferable a lilac or gold but white would work too.
I bathed myself too in various herbs to make sure I was clear of everything and then I spent a few hours meditating. I wanted to make sure I was clear minded and grounded for everything. I knew my nerves would be through the roof and if I was unable to remove the Luna’s scars, I knew there would be backlash for not only myself but for Nathan too.
The evening came around and I carried everything I needed, escorted by Nathan and Jack, up to the woodland behind the pack house. We could have done it inside, but I wanted the moon which was only half full to be in full view. I would normally have waited for a full moon, but I knew there was an urgency here, an urgency to prove I could be helpful; to prove I wasn’t the big, scary witch they all thought and to make sure their faith in Nathan was still there.
“Good Evening.” I said as we found the luna, alpha and another guard I didn’t know waiting for us. The Luna was wearing a long white dress but there were hints of green woven into it and I frowned.
“I didn’t have anything pure white besides my coronation dress and that is too special.” The Luna said when she noticed my frown. I nodded. It wasn’t a huge hinderance, but it was a small punch in the stomach that she wouldn’t do as I asked of her. I knew the green would help with the nature aspect and even stood for friendship and loyalty, but I doubt any of that was felt by the Luna towards me.
“I need you to sit cross legged on the ground for me.” I said, keeping my tone soft and airy. “Now, I understand you would have been within a salt circle in your ritual before… but I promise, this is not a binding circle. Should you wish to leave this healing ritual at any time you can. The circle is just to concentrate my magic within it.” The Luna looked nervously at the Alpha. I noticed the nervousness and tried to reassure her. “I promise the circle can be broken at any time by anyone, if you feel unsafe, they may enter but the spell will end. Unfortunately, as I need to focus on you, only you may be within the circle. Is that, ok?” I asked.
“What are our guarantees that she is safe.” I heard the Alpha ask. I had spoken to Nathan about this beforehand, so he answered for me.
“Freybelle has guaranteed me that everything she says will be in English except for a few runes which I have wrote here and their meanings. If we see any sort of change in body positions, eye colours or a change in the air I have been instructed to enter the circle and get the Luna. The circle will also be cast clockwise…”
“It was counter last time, does that make a difference?” The Luna asked in surprise.
“It does, counterclockwise is for black magic, clockwise for white. There is also a full list of the ritual and what will happen. The Luna shouldn’t feel a thing but if she does, she is requested to shout out for aid.” I looked at the Alpha and he nodded.
“Are you ok to proceed Luna?” I asked and she also nodded, sitting cross legged on the ground. I gave Nathan my satchel and he held it open whilst I grabbed what I needed. He gave me a reassuring smile as I walked around the Luna, laying salt in a circle.
“Goddess, Please bless our ritual.” The words weren’t needed but I needed the strength. I started north and began moving around in a circle to join back north. Before I closed the circle, I placed everything I would need in the circle and then closed it off with only the Luna and I inside. Then I set up the candles in the north, east, south and west and lit them. I didn’t use my magic as I didn’t want to waste any but also because I remembered Nathans reaction when I had. I imagine the Luna and Alpha would be nervous knowing I could set them alight at any point. Once the candles were lit and the circle was set, I sat down, cross legged from the luna.
“I will need you to hold my hands. Is that, ok?” I asked and she nodded, handing me her small and delicate hands.
“So, it wont hurt?” I shook my head.
“Not at all, you may feel a tingling in your scar but that is all and that rarely happens.” She nodded, looking at the Alpha again with a small smile. “I will not cast the four runes I need. As Nathan explained they will have strange names, but they all mean something to the ritual which Nathan will explain as I do them. Once I finish, I will then say the spell followed by gathering magic. I will let go of your hands and draw power from nature before placing my hands over your scar. Once we begin, I will not be able to talk much except for the magic. Do you have any questions now?” She shook her head, but I could feel her hands trembling.
“I know you’re scared and I do understand your hostility towards me, I do. But I promise I am not here to hurt you. I want to prove with this that I only work for the good, the light and in white magic.” She again nodded. I grasped her hands tightly before letting one go and the other began moving through the air as I wrote the runes at each point of direction.
“Kennaz” I said aloud so everyone could hear.
“For improvement within the self.” Nathan said aloud.
“Thurisaz”
“For regeneration of the self and of the mind and body.” I smiled as he said them out loud, his gruff voce giving me courage and strength.
“Wunjo”
“For comfort and peace within.”
“Uruz”
“For strength, freedom and courage to fight.” Nathan said finally as I finished. I knew I would be radiating power that the Luna could feel but there should be no outward signs to anyone else. I took the Lunas hand again and began reciting a healing prayer.
“May the Light that shines deep inside, flow out of you and never hide. May the light within your soul, heal you now and make you whole. May the light that shines, ever so bright, help your pain on this night. May the light within your core, bring peace and love, forever more.” I said, concentrating my power to flow within me. I let go of her hands and placed them on the ground, feeling the ground beneath me I drew in as much as I could from that and the moon. I felt it flowing and moved to my knees, not moving my hands. Then I quickly placed my hands over the Lunas scar on her eye and forehead. She jumped at my suddenness but didn’t call for help or run. I kept my eyes closed and concentrated everything into her.
“I feel the tingling.” She whispered and I nodded. I knew tonight wouldn’t fully restore the scar, but I knew it would be very faded. The sight she may have lost would completely return though and her hair would begin growing at its normal colour again. I felt my power waning but kept pouring everything I could into her. “Are you ok?” She asked, clearly sensing me getting weaker. I nodded but didn’t move. When I finally felt the last of my magic slip, I sat back on my ankles, panting hard. I opened my eyes and thanked the goddess for watching over us. The improvement was remarkable, and I smiled. Then I tried to get up to open the circle, but I couldn’t stand.
“Freybelle?” I heard someone ask. I knew it was the Luna but my vision had gone blurry.
“I’m ok, just a little drained.” I answered, moving to the north on my knees, to open the circle I only needed to wipe away a bit and blow the candles out.
“Can I do anything?” She asked, her tone a lot softer than usual.
“Can you blow those two candles out please ad give thanks after each one.” I think she nodded but I wasn’t sure, but I heard her muttering as I did the same. Then I opened the circle. The Alpha and Nathan were immediately on us.
“Its…Its…” The Alpha stuttered.
“Incredible? Amazing? Helpful?” Nathan offered before scooping me up into his arms. I immediately felt his warmth and the familiar tingles of the mate bond. Then I felt a hand on me as someone began offering me thanks. However, I was immediately transported into a vision.
“We cannot do that. Nathan would be furious.” I heard the Luna say.
“She cannot be allowed to walk amongst our pack, shes a danger.” I heard from the person I was seeing the vision through, and I knew it was the Alpha.
“She may be, but don’t we trust Nathan? Can’t we at least give her a small chance and just keep following her? She’s one witch…” The Luna again.
“I don’t trust her.”
“No, but you trust Nathan, and if she is his mate, even evil, she won’t want to hurt him. She will be gone once shes helped us, right?”
“Fine.” The Alpha spat. “But she steps one toe out of Line Sylvia and I will personally kill her.” The vision faded and I awoke. MY vision was still a little blurry but not from the magic, it was from tears this time.
“You saw?” He asked and I nodded. “I am sorry Freybelle… I… I.” The Alpha was actually stumped for words. “I cannot thank you enough for this.”
“Me too Freybelle. My vision is clear, and the scar is almost gone.” She smiled and for once I didn’t fear feel from her but elation.
“We will need…” I groaned, motioning for Nathan to put me down. “need maybe one more spell which I would prefer to do on the full moon in two weeks, but it is mostly gone.” The Luna smiled at me. “Alpha, I hope I haven’t stepped a toe out of line, and I promise I will not moving forwards.” The Alpha glared at me, but I felt sorrow in him. He was annoyed at me for bringing it up but felt bad for what he had said and that was enough for now. “Luna, thank you, even in your fear you trust Nathan and I appreciate that trust by proxy.” The Luna looked confused and then her mouth formed an O.
“You saw?” She asked and I nodded.
“I hope you understand this doesn’t mean we fully trust you, but I am sorry for the way we have treated you. We do trust Nathan, and this is a small step for you. However, I have a pack to take care of. I hope you understand my wariness especially after past events.” I nodded, knowing I would never be welcome here but at least I now wouldn’t be greeted fully by hatred when I was in their presence.
“I understand. Thank you. Now, I need to rest.” I smiled as I started to hobble away. Nathan had been silent the entire time, but I could sense a growing anger within him. I patted his arm, and he bowed his head in goodnight to the Alpha and Luna before following me and gently placing his arm around my waist to steady me.
