Chapter 27
Nathan’s POV
We’d been away from the pack for three days so far and Frey was extremely comfortable. Her usual giddy personality was back, she had completely forgiven me and even stopped worrying about everything it seemed. It was like before when we were at the cabin only, we were a lot more open than before. She hadn’t had any more contact with the goddess from before so that conversation had been put on the back burner, but she was planning for the scrying ritual once we entered the lower valley in less than a week. She was chatting animatedly about various spell products she wished she had and what she missed.
“I have everything I need for a basic ritual but there are a few things I could get to make it even better. My worry is that your Alpha wont like it if I throw in some things he doesn’t understand. A mirror and candles are tame and items he understands.” I nodded agreeing with her.
“What would make it better?” I asked, curious.
“Crystals, a cauldron, but that’s too witchy for your pack, an athame, but that’s a massive no…”
“Whats an athame?” I asked, never having heard the word.
“Sorry, I sometimes just babble on, forgetting not everyone is a witch. It’s a ceremonial knife.” She laughed. We continued walking.
“Oh yeah, he might have something to say about that.” I chuckled. “The crystals he might not be fussed about though, especially if you write why they are needed again. That seemed to help the tension last time.” She nodded and we walked towards a supply store that Frey had been to before. We had parked the car a short walk away and left our things in the back, not sure where we were going to stay tonight.
“This store sells everything I could ever want or need.” As she was opening the door a person came running out and knocked right into Frey. I grabbed them by the collar.
“Asher?” I heard Frey question then the boy’s eyes went wide, and he started to struggle. “Asher, what the hell?” She asked, putting her hands up to calm him.
“I can’t talk to you… no. You should be dead.” He hissed.
“Well, clearly, I’m not… What the hell, Asher. You knew about the ritual?” She growled at him. Before Frey could ask anything else I dragged the boy towards the car, he wasn’t screaming but he was struggling. He dropped the pack he was holding, and Frey picked it up, looking inside and her eyes went wide. “Asher?” She questioned but his lips stayed tight. What was in the bag?
“Answer the lady or ill make you.” I snarled at him.
“I don’t answer to you, stinking mutt.” He growled and I was about to punch him in the face when Frey stopped me.
“No… we need him unharmed… if we have him, I don’t need any other spell ingredients.” I saw her face, smiling mischievously and whilst I wasn’t used to it, it made me smile.
Freybelle’s POV
“Ok, we need restraints.” Nathan smiled and I shook my head.
“We don’t… its not ideal to tur up at your pack with him in magical restraints but I can hold him until we find something more practical.” She said and I didn’t ask what she meant but I saw her mumbling then the next minute all I could see was Ashers eyes wide and afraid. His mouth was completely shut, and his body went limp. I grabbed him tighter and threw him in the back of the car, turning to see Frey who was now swaying on the spot.
“Are you ok?” I asked, running to her and grabbing her.
“I’m fine, binding magic is toeing the line into dark magic. I hate the feeling, but I can hold him until we get closer to the pack.” She coughed and I knew it was taking its toll on her.
“Ill run and get some cable ties so we can bind him.” She shook her head.
“No, he can easily escape them. We need him back at your pack, alive and able to talk. I need answers… this bag…” She held it up. Inside were some herbs and a large black stone. I didn’t pretend to understand but I stashed it in my backpack and helped her to the car.
“Come on, you’re weak, we need to get back as soon as possible.” I knew the drive was only an hour, but I wanted to get her free from this spell which seemed to be affecting her badly. I drove like a mad man, getting there as quickly as I could and cut the journey down to 40 minutes.
“I need to break the binding spell before I get there, or your Alpha will be worried. I don’t need to explain that. However, a soon as I release the spell he will try to run and fight. Can you be ready?” I nodded and hopped out of the car, opening the back door as Jack ran towards us having heard the screech of the tyres.
“Stay back Jack, ill explain in a minute.” I shouted as I grabbed Asher off the back seat. “Go Frey.” She released the spell, and she was right, Asher tried to break free.
“Grab his hands!” Frey screamed, jumping out of the car, and to my surprise Jack and another guy from my afternoon training squad, named Sam, grabbed his hands. “I need some thread, like sewing thread, preferably in black if possible. Again, Sam leapt into action and shouted to a few guys who were stood around. They immediately ran to the local shop.
“What the actual f**k is happening Nathan.” Jack was shouting over the screams coming from Asher.
“Asher, shut up!” Frey shouted but he spat at her. I saw black and hit him, knocking him out. “Nathan!” She scolded me.
“Sorry, but at least we can think now. I didn’t kill him, just knocked him out.” She tutted in annoyance, but I could see her holding back a smile. “Jack, this is a member of Frey’s old coven. He was shocked to see her alive and then tried to run. He knew about the ritual, and I think he has supplies to do something else terrible. Frey bound him with magic until we got here and now, he’s here. I assume the thread is for something?” I asked, looking at her.
“Binding again. I can spell the thread meaning he won’t be able to use magic whilst hes here. I haven’t been using mine, but we are more than capable of using all of the elements at will.” She said, her face serious as she faced Jack.
“You’ve been holding back using magic?” I heard Luna Sylvia ask as she and Alpha Fenn walked up behind us.
“And you can use the elements.” I saw Frey cringe before she turned around.
“Yes, I would never use them to harm you or your pack, which is why I haven’t. But I am perfectly capable of forming fire out of nothing and I know Asher is incredibly talented with earth magic. I can bind his hands so he cannot use it, but it will only be temporary. I would have to do the spell multiple times a day until we get information. I can also use him in the scrying spell, meaning we can do it from here and without them knowing its me searching for them.” I saw Alpha Fenn’s face light up. He was clearly happy at not having to trapse through the forest without a purpose.
“Wow.” I heard the Luna say and I had to bite back a smile. Suddenly one of Sams friends came running back with black thread and handed it to Freybelle.
“Thankyou Damon.” She smiled and he nodded with a slight grin on his face then she turned to the Alpha. “Do I have your blessing to bind him?” She asked and Alpha Fenn looked taken aback before nodding his head. I don’t think he expected her to ask him. I eyed him suspiciously and he looked at me with his brows furrowed but didn’t give anything away with his face and he didn’t attempt to talk through the mind link either. Frey got to work and was explaining what she was doing whilst she did it. She knew she needed to.
“This thread should hold him for at least 4 hours. He can still run and run his mouth, but he won’t be able to touch anything, use his hands at all or summon magic. He can still cast rituals but obviously he will be locked up…” she turned to the Alpha. “Well, I assume he will be? Right?” She looked nervous now.
“He will. Jack, take him to the holding cell. I want someone on him at all times and Frey will be back every 4 hours to bind him again whilst we decide what to do moving forwards.” Once Asher was out of sight, Frey immediately burst into tears, and I grabbed her to me.
“Is she ok?” The Luna asked, genuinely concerned.
“I’m ok Luna, thank you, I didn’t have time to react in the town we were in, so the shock is hitting me now. He knew… they all knew.” I immediately noticed the orange glow in her eyes as her temper rose.
“Frey.” I said as she looked at me and her eyes flashed in and out. “You’re ok, youre safe with me, I promise.” I said and her eyes turned back to their normal blue colour as she clung to my chest crying.
