Chapter 29 Nathan’s POV After an hour we heard form the Luna that we had the go ahead to start training with Frey using her magic. I knew the Alpha had okayed it otherwise the Luna wouldn’t have contacted me about it, but it was frustrating that he hadn’t contacted me directly. I told everyone we would start this afternoon. Frey needed rest and to rebind Asher before we talked to him. Alpha Fenn hadn’t said anything about it but I was sure Asher would say things to Frey when we went back to bind him. “Nathan…” Frey asked tentatively as we walked back to our house. I looked over to her to see her nervously biting her lip. “Whats wrong?” I asked, grabbing her hand as we walked. “Can you tell me about what you said earlier?” I looked at her confused. “About the mind linking.” Oh… that. “Oh, yeah… well have you read up about marking?” I asked, hoping she had. By the fact that her face turned red I knew she had. I chuckled and she playfully slapped my arm. “Well, a wolf can only communicate within their pack once they come of age so if a mate is from another pack they cannot mind link. However, when wolves mark each other, they are able to link their mates regardless of being from separate packs. Then when they join their mates pack, either way around, they are accepted by the Alpha and Luna, and they can then communicate freely in the pack. With humans, when we mark them, there is a choice for them to either become a werewolf or to stay human. They cannot communicate with us, but they can feel our emotions heightened and feel the mate bond fully. Its not documented of a witch mating with a wolf but I assume its very similar to that of a human, however with you being a witch I wonder if maybe you can refuse to become a wolf and still able to communicate with me.” She seemed deep in thought. “I don’t want to be a wolf, but you mark me eventually, right?” She asked and I nodded. “I hope so.” She blushed and smiled. “I would want you to. So, we can at least try and see what happens right?” She smiled at me; her smile brighter than it had been since this morning. “Yeah of course.” “Ok…” “You know that we would have to…” I swallowed the saliva pooling in my mouth at saying those words. I wasn’t embarrassed, more worried about her reaction. “Have s*x…” Frey giggled at my reluctance to say the words. “Yeah, I read that… I mean… I hope that’s where the last few days were leading…” She giggled and I knew she was teasing me. I poked her in her ribs, eliciting another giggle. “How about this? We wait until after the Luna’s healing ceremony. That way the moon will be full and you’ll be at your strongest, right?” She looked at me with big doe eyes and I didn’t know why. “You remembered that?” I put my arm around her waist. “Of course I did.” I smiled and she put her head against me as we walked. “You will be low on energy, and you said when we kissed after that I filled you with energy again. Maybe it will help that and because of your magic being heightened it will work better.” She looked up at me and smiled, hugely. “I like that idea.” She said before getting shy again and putting her head back down into my chest. “Right, lets get you rested before we head back to Asher and then to training.” She groaned. “Hey, at least this time you’ll be involved instead of just sitting under a tree in various different sexy positions.” I teased as I opened our door, and we stepped inside. Freybelle’s POV “I’m sorry about this Asher.” I said, not making eye contact as I re did the binding spell to keep his magic away. “No, you aren’t.” He spat. “No, I am. Unlike you and the coven I don’t practice black magic.” I snarled, still not making eye contact. I was glad the humanity within me meant I couldn’t make eye contact because I felt bad about doing this. “You have no idea what youre talking about… it was necessary.” He spat and this time I did look up, into eyes of hatred. “Was it though?” I questioned, moving backwards away from him, now I had finished. I crossed my arms, protectively over my chest. Nathan was just outside the door but close enough if I needed him. I refused to let him inside just in case something went wrong. “It was. You’ve always been sheltered. Your mother saw great things in you… You never dealt with the hardships the rest of us did.” “Hardships?” I questioned, genuinely curious. “If you’d gotten your head out of your ass, you’d have seen. The lack of food, the crops failing, the animals dying, our power getting weaker. You didn’t care only training for your maiden ceremony. Then you got more gifts… while the rest of us waned in power. We tried to set up home in numerous towns, only to be run out because of what we were.” I frowned, not remembering any of this. We had always been nomadic, always had food and animals. “We were fine…” I said, confused. “No, you saw we were ok…” I was genuinely confused but the venom in his voice sid he believed it to be true. “Asher… did you see the animals die? Did you see the crops fail?” I asked and his eyes glazed over for a second and his face faltered. “I didn’t need to, the lack of food proved everything…” I looked at him in confusion. I was sure he was misremembering, or he had been purposely confused. “You mother promised things would get better if we helped her. First the Luna, then you, but they failed. Your mother told us you were dead, and you should be. You were supposed to fix everything. “Who is promising my mother things?” “I won’t tell you anything. Just know that you were part of the problem. Not trying to help, only studying, only worrying about yourself. Your sister was better than you in every way.” Then he refused to talk anymore. I knew Nathan had heard everything, so I left him there, knowing he was safe for another few hours. I headed to the training field, thinking everything over. Had my mother lied to the coven to keep them helping, to get them to trust in an evil ritual which promised everything would be fixed? Asher was so bitter, but he didn’t seem evil, just hurting and desperate. What had my mother been promised? Was my sister in on this fully or was she as confused as everyone else. “Frey, are you ok?” He asked and I nodded. “Yeah, actually I am. Its strange but I don’t think he knows what hes involved in…” I said, chewing my cheek as I thought. “It seemed that way… but we cannot be sure.” He said, being my voice of reason. “I know… I will talk to him again and get everything one way or another.” I said, my face hard knowing there were spells I could use to get him to talk. I would be walking on the path of darkness, but I know I could be brought back to the light by Nathan. I smiled and grabbed his hand as we reached the training field. Nathan introduced me but everyone knew me. “Today he is going to throw spell at you. She won’t warn you, tell you what shes using or help in anyway. She will go easy on you for today only, so learn from her tells, her facial changes or body movements. Listen for spell words or trigger words. Anything that can show us when a spell is being cast by the enemy. However, if you do break through her spells, please don’t kill her… I kind of like my mate in one piece.” And that was it, it was out in the pack we were mates. Some seemed glad but others started mumbling amongst themselves and looked worried. I didn’t feel any hostility though, just cautiousness and intrigue. I began flinging low level spells at them as they charged forwards. A blast of fire or a gust of wind. I captured water from the air and flung it at them or even moved the dirt under their feet. Mostly though I used fire, it being my strongest element. No one had managed to get through yet and I kept changing my tells. I knew I mumbled when I cast, and I knew there were movements that made it obvious I was casting so I kept changing. “Come on! Someone, anyone, get through!” Nathan shouted to the group as they all grumbled at him. “You show us how its done then sir.” One of the younger boys shouted and Nathan laughed. The first time I had truly seen him laugh except for with me. “Ok… that alright with you Frey?” I frowned, not wanting to hurt him but I nodded. “And I don’t want you to go easy on me. Remember Ive fought witches before. I’m little more seasoned than this lot.” I nodded, taking on a stronger stance. I would still avoid hitting him where possible, but I would make it hard for him to get to me. He sped forwards towards me with speed faster than everyone else and I was shocked for a second before I panicked and sent water aimed at his face. He didn’t even dodge, just barged straight through it before hurling himself at me. The crowd was cheering now as I dodged to the side so Nathan couldn’t land on me. I immediately moved the earth where he would land so there was a ditch he would have to climb out of. I ran a safe distance away and prepared a fire ball between my finger s Nathan jumped out of the hole with a huge jump. I wouldn’t be put off this time though as I hurled the fireball at his feet. Again, he didn’t move. “I thought I said, don’t go easy on me.” He shouted before charging again. I growled, not wanting to hurt him. “Nathan!” I shouted in warning, but he didn’t listen. “I’m serious… I don’t want to hurt you.” I screamed but he ignored me and as he got closer, I shot out wind at him trying to push him back. It worked and I looked at him with a glare, but he just smiled at me. “I’ll be fine, don’t aim to kill me obviously but give me all you’ve got.” He shouted and I frowned. I couldn’t do it. “I can’t.” I shouted but before I knew it, he was on me. “You can and you should.” He said as he grabbed one of my arms, twisting it behind my back and holding me against his chest. “This it’s just training for my guys. What happens when you get in there and they try to hurt you? People you care about and love. People you’ve known for years. I saw the way you looked at Asher. You reacted purely on instinct then; can you do it again?” He said, gently in my ear. “I can’t hurt you, Nathan. I can hurt them.” I answered, not feeling threatened at all. I felt Nathan deflate, and I felt worried emanating from him. “I can, I promise, they deserve it, you guys don’t. Id never hurt you or them.” “Maybe not them, but you could hurt me, right? Maybe, she can fight me?” I hear a voice call and immediately knew it was the Alpha. Nathan let go of me and I bit my lip, looking at him in worry. He wasn’t wrong. I still felt a lot of resentment for the Alpha.
