Fitz knew that Ritchie avoided using her implant when she could help it. But she never turned it off completely. It would be impossible for her to do that and remain a cadet.
So why couldn"t his pings find her?
He would tell himself he was being paranoid if this exact thing didn"t keep happening with her. And it was always bad news.
"What is it?" Kung asked. Fitz had forgotten Kung was there while he stood frozen in place, trying to contact Ritchie.
"I can"t reach Ritchie," he said.
Kung was quiet for a moment, then said gravely, "I can"t either. What does that mean?"
"Nothing good," Fitz said. Then a thought struck him. "Try Moreau."
"No response," Kung said after another long moment.
"Me neither," Fitz said. "I don"t like this."
"Let me check with the school system," Kung said.
