It’s going to take me a while to get used to the changes that happened in Monteagle while I was gone. Though, the changes aren’t necessarily something I can point out. The same buildings line the streets, the same slow rhythm carries through the town. People move without urgency, offering small nods and quiet greetings as I pass. Beneath that, however, something hums, low and subtle. It’s easy to miss if you don’t know what to look for. After my run in with Asher-not-Kade and the strange way my parents acted, I'm definitely looking. I don’t consciously decide where I’m going. My feet just move, carrying me past the edge of the main stretch of town, past the last few storefronts, and into quieter roads where the trees being to close in again.
