The word lands hard enough to steal the air from my lungs. “What?” The word comes out barely a breath. “They’re rogues,” he throws over his shoulder. His entire posture changes like whatever calm he had before has been stripped away completely. Rogues. The word definitely seems to mean more to him than it does me. I take a slow step back from the door, my pulse still racing as another shadow moves at the edge of the yard, the reality of the situation settling in piece by piece.
