“Get down!” Kaiya yelled, falling back down to the road. Around her protestors fell, but the attack had already begun, and Kaiya watched as stun batons began their work, cracking into nearby skulls. A police officer unlatched a frequency rifle and took aim into the crowd. “No rifles!” the commanding officer said, his voice helpless in the din. He was ignored. Finally, Jerome’s group responded. A barrage of frequency fire rained down over the boulevard. All around Kaiya police officers raised their energy shields, or fell to the ground clutching the parts of their body the frequencies had hit. Full body armour would be enough to stop penetration at those ranges, but not enough to stop pain. The momentary confusion was enough for Kaiya to act. She launched herself up from the ground
