9 Kaiya pushed deeper into the crowd, ignoring the cries of indignant annoyance that followed her. She offered brief, half-hearted apologies as she charged through, but her focus remained on Kormac, who was walking into the hospital atrium. She kept losing sight of him from her position in the crowd, and he disappeared behind a clump of nurses and soldiers. Kaiya’s approach towards the front of the crowd was hindered by an irate man who grabbed her arm and swore as he pulled her back, declaring she deserved to go to the back of the line. Kaiya stumbled and regained her balance, shaking her arm free of the man and turning to face him. Her first inclination was to give him a good whack in the face, but the need to find Kormac before he disappeared into the hospital’s bowels pressed harder
