“Who are you?” Kaiya demanded. “What do you know about my father?”
The Chief Inspector toyed with the access card and looked down at her. “You shouldn’t be here,” he said.
Kaiya despised him already, and kicked him in the shin. He gave no response at first, then returned the favour, kicking her in the same spot. Kaiya winced as slivers of fire sliced through her leg.
“I’m not Benjamin. I’m willing to stoop to your level. So if that’s how you want to act, then go ahead. You’d better hope you’re ready to deal with the consequences. Get up.”
Kaiya avoided the Chief Inspector’s gaze. There was something behind it she couldn’t place. A fury that didn’t come from a place of true anger. “What did he mean? What do you know about my father.”
