Heart stepped inside slowly. “We can fix this,” she said firmly, trying to hold onto certainty. Her father shook his head. “This is bigger than us, Heart.” Before she could respond, the doorbell rang. Two formally dressed men entered the house shortly after. They introduced themselves as representatives handling outstanding financial obligations linked to the Ardent estate. Their tone was calm, professional—but firm. Documents were placed on the table. Deadlines were mentioned. Terms were explained. Three days. That was all they had before full enforcement procedures would begin. When they left, silence filled the house in a way Heart had never experienced before. Not peaceful silence. Final silence.
