My eyes skimmed all over the document at its contents.
First, I was to obey their rules without hesitation or question.
Whenever they asked what I felt, what I thought, what stirred inside me, I had to lay it bare for them.
Any act of disobedience would be punished, and they alone would decide the shape of that punishment, choosing whatever method pleased them most.
I had to answer the instant one of them called my name. I had to eat exactly what they placed before me and when they placed it.
My body, time, pleasure and pain now belonged to them. The pact made it clear that I was no longer simply their debtor. I was theirs to command, to correct and possess.
I took a bite of the apple I’d brought with me, as I turned the final page.
