Chapter 1

510 Words
I shoot upright in my bed and grab for my throat, breathing rapidly, feeling the warm tears run down my face. "I'm ok, it's OK, it's not real" I keep repeating to myself, but the fear feels very real. I kill the alarm and throw my legs off the side of the bed. Urgh, 5am... why do we have to wake up so early in the morning... its unnatural and inhumane. I stand up and stretch my body, releasing all the tension I still had from my nightmare. I make my way to the bathroom, turn on the light and stand infront of the mirror to try comb out the birds nest that is my hair. That's weird, I have scratch marks along my neck. I twist my head and see that it starts from my right ear and goes all the way to under my chin on the left side of my neck, exactly where I was scratched in my dream. What the hell? I run my fingers along the marks, four to be exact. And just like that, they dissappear, as if nothing was there to begin with. I twist my head and stretch my neck but there are no marks. I rub my eyes and blink a few times trying desperately to wake myself up. I must still be asleep and imagining things. I splash some cold water on my face and stand up to look at the girl staring back at me. My name is Emily Adams, I'm 17 years old. I have long wavy reddish brown hair with bright blue eyes. I have little freckles on my nose and some on my cheeks. I am not skinny, but I am not chubby either. I'm on the softer side and have the average body type I guess. I'm quite short, standing at a whopping 5.2 feet. I've been told I'm quite pretty, but to me, I'm just plain and simple. After doing my business, I make my way down stares to the kitchen to grab myself a cup of coffee. My mom is already up and she hands me my cup, "Good Morning Emmy, did you sleep well love?" My mom asks. "Good morning mommy, same old same old, I had that nightmare again...", she looks away and busies herself with making a cup of coffee for my dad, "The one with the wolf?" She asks. "Yes mom, but when I woke up and looked in the mirror, I thought I still saw the marks on my neck from where the wolf scratched me, but when I looked again, it was gone". My mom looks at me surprised and quickly regains herself "Oh, well you know, some dreams can feel very vivid and you were probably not awake yet".... I shrug at her reasoning as I drink my coffee. "Would you like some breakfast honey?", "No thanks mom, I'll grab something before school". I get up to give my mom a big hug and make my way back up the stairs to get ready for school.
