My Mate

2036 Words
With the way I lived my life, I was almost becoming antisocial because I never attended outings or made friends. I had been rejected right from childhood so I did not even bother keeping friends as a grown up because my family would threaten them off me. My hand was in Lily's throughout the whole drive because my heart would not stop pounding in its place. It was as if I was going to be executed like I was someone on a death row. She could not stop laughing at my attitude. "Who knew you could be this scared?" She mocked and I frowned. "It's not funny, old lady." "At least this old lady can socialize." She teased and my frown deepened. After a long while, we drove into the Royal estate and started approaching the venue where the event would take place. The hall was linked to the main Royal wing but we drove down to the hall because we were more than late already. Lily looked so elegant in her dress, even as a woman in her sixties. She held my hand firmly as we stepped on the red carpet for pictures. I was not so used to these things so shyness set in, alongside nervousness. "Remember, keep your head up." She whispered to me in a very serious tone, like she was not even joking at all and I could tell that she would go hard on me if I did not adjust immediately. I composed myself as we walked on the red carpet and posed for pictures. For the first time in my years of existence, I smiled at numerous cameras as they released shutter sounds and flashes. "Good job." Lily whispered to me again as we stepped down from the red carpet and headed towards the entrance of the hall. Then, she released my hand. "You can walk on your own now, young lady." I frowned. Was this her ditching me? No, she was not actually. Everything Lily did there eventually made sense when I saw every other person walk into the hall, smiling and looking confident. She wanted to build my self esteem and confidence, she was right to have done that because I really needed it. We walked down the aisle side by side, as I stylishly looked for my parents wherever they were seated. I don't know why but the thought of running into them made my heart wrench. The anxiety I had was mad. The big and spacious hall was filled with hundreds of people and apparently, people were seated on tables reserved for their clans. The indicator was there on a card placed on the table. I was supposed to be with my clan but it seemed like I would be going with Lily to her clan. I never met her clan members or family members anyway, I had only heard stories about them. We eventually saw the table area where her clan members were seated and we joined them there. I don't know why but I was welcomed there, or maybe I felt like it. The smiles on their faces did not look hypocritical and they all addressed me with respect like they did to Lily. They were quite many, and there were still some tables around filled with members from her clan. The clan was called 'The seers blood'. My clan? I did not even know what they were called because I never tried to know about it. My parents did not tell me either, since I was like an outcast in the clan likewise, in the family. The party had already started yeah but apparently, the supposed celebrant was not in the hall yet. The host who addressed us all then announced the Alpha's arrival and that he would be walking in any moment from then. The moment that was announced, everyone stood up on their feet and there was dead silence across the hall. Like the unison was crazy, despite the fact that we were many. I did not know how things were being done here, so I was just there imitating the actions of the crowd. I narrowed my gaze down to the far entrance of the hall and then at that moment, I saw a silhouette-like figure step into the hall, with some men walking behind him. I recognized him immediately and I guessed the guys behind him were bodyguards, secretaries and some young elders in the pack. Alpha Damien was far stunning in reality. He was really handsome and for a while there, I could not get my eyes off him. Even his outfit stunned, a black suit set that seemed to be a customized design. His hairstyle was screaming attraction and his face? Flawless, sharp and so fine. He walked down the aisle in all glory, smiling gently at the crowd as they all cheered. Screams and shouts filled the air as he walked in, but I, I guess, was the only one that did not cheer. Those noises got to me and my head started to ache. Were the screams really necessary? These people get to f*****g see him at many points in time so what were the yells for? Maybe it was not their fault though, Alpha Damien was sure handsome and intimidating. As soon as he got to the podium, he stopped and the men with him dispersed, spreading out in different places. "Good evening all." He said into the table microphone, his voice sending chills down my spine. I did not understand what that feeling was, but I felt so weird in my body. It seemed to be obvious through my facial expression because Lily asked me if I was okay but I nodded. Alpha Damien sent his order that we could have our seats, then we did and I wondered how a leader could be so humble and sweet. Many servers started going around the hall, serving glasses of champagne politely while kids seemed to be served fruit drinks. It was a sorry for all, after all. Alpha Damien gave a short and simple speech then he raised a glass of wine and made a toast with the whole pack members. We all raised our glasses and then claps filled the atmosphere. The moment that quieted down, we drank from our glasses. Then we started getting served different dishes. "Drink some more, Elara. You are an adult, not underage." Lily urged, teasing me and at the same time encouraging me. She poured me a slightly alcoholic wine close to three times and I drank. Soon, I started feeling the need the need to pee. I hated myself right there. I should have not drank so much, now I needed to use the restroom, definitely I would have to move around the hall and Lily would even go with me. I was afraid of running into my family and people, generally. I could not handle crowdy places alone, obviously. "You are pressed?" Lily leaned closer and asked, whispering into my ears. I nodded gently, staring back at her and feeling pitiful. "Take the entrance at 75 degrees, walk up for three minutes, and then turn to your right, just walk down a bit and you are at the restroom." She instructed. I did not get the description at first but I got pressed the more and eventually had to take action. I did not care if I ran into my family or any damn clan member, I just wanted to ease myself. I took to the description Lily had given me and followed it diligently. Just when I was almost at the restroom, someone suddenly blocked my way. "Finn." His name escaped from my lips as I stared at him, looking shocked to see me definitely. He assessed me from head to toe and scoffed. "I sure have many questions to ask you." He said, looking like one that could not believe what he was seeing. It was understandable though. I could not believe myself too. "I know, right? Save it for just two minutes, two minutes Finn. I need to use the restroom." I said to him hurriedly but he refused to let me go. "No, not until you tell me why you are here, how you got here and why you are dressed up like this...you did not steal that dress, did you? Are those not mum's accessories?" I was eventually getting pissed off. "Shut the f**k up, you want an explanation right? But I believe I don't owe you one. We came here on our own so mind your business!" I slammed and pushed him out of the way. I rushed into the females' and released myself. The sigh of relief that followed was incredible. I was so relieved. Now back to reality. Finn was definitely going to inform my parents about seeing me, which of course they would not believe at first but then they would come looking for me here if he insisted. I just decided, I needed to get out of here. A simple apology to Lily would do, at least I followed her to the party. I pulled my dress upward and held it as I ran in an unknown direction, in heels. Every other way led into the hall but I wanted to leave, if I would take the normal entrance, there was a high chance that I would run into them. I took that different turn and ran towards the entrance. It had to lead into the main Royal wing, then I would leave from there. As expected, the entrance led into the main Royal wing. As I got there, I was firstly awed by the beauty and grand way it was built and decorated. While I was being carried away with admiration, I suddenly heard loud and inconsistent footsteps like that's of a good number of people. I quickly hid myself behind some flowers and watched what was going on. Some metres away, I could see Alpha Damien walking past, with some hefty looking men. It seemed like he was sneaking out of his own party to go into the Royal wing to do what-heaven-knows. "Is it okay to leave, Alpha?" I heard one of the guys ask as they walked. "It's nothing. Food is why they are here anyways. There are enough cards with my autographs on them to give out, anyone who wants a special meeting with me can wait till whenever." Alpha Damien, replied quite rudely. I scrunched my brow, feeling surprised. How was he two-faced? All of a sudden, I heard a dog bark. Looking around, I saw a big, brown dog standing at a distance, barking endlessly at me. I felt displeased. Alpha Damien and his men halted their steps abruptly and turned to my direction. "Isn't that Luca? Why is he outside?" He asked, frowning. I could see his face clearly because the area was well lit but the flower beds and lawn caused some shadows. Some of his men came over to check the dog and then by default, I got caught. The guy who saw me c****d a pistol and directed it towards me immediately. I stood up, raising my hands above my head. "I am...a...pack member." I said, stammering. I turned to Alpha Damien. There is no way I would get killed like this, right? "No one is allowed in here while the party is going on." The guy stated and I begged with my eyes. "I just wanted to leave and go home...I had no idea I would get in here." I defended. The guys brought their gun down immediately and it seemed like Alpha Damien had instructed them all to. Alpha Damien then sent me a gesture to come over. Slowly and cautiously, I walked towards him with those men watching me closely like an hawk. The moment I got to where the Alpha was, my spirits were suddenly lifted. I felt a connection with him and got confused for a while. He seemed to get a similar feeling too and he closed his eyes, like he wanted to figure something out. He opened them again and stared closely at me. "My mate!?"
