*MAVER’S POV*
I pretended to fall asleep on the couch for her to stop bombarding me with nonsensical questions. It’s like visiting the guidance counselor all over again. It’s all the same to me.
I bet she doesn’t even care about me. Adults can be so pretentious and boring.
I tried to take a peek at her, wondering what she was doing but the b***h caught my eye and found me out in an instant. s**t.
“Okay… I’ll just go get something for us to drink.” She said rather awkwardly.
Didn’t even ask me what I prefer. Tsk.
She came back with two cups of coffee… or so I thought.
“You’re giving me milk?” Is she treating me like a child right now?!
“We ran out of coffee. You don’t like milk?” She inquired.
“It’s not that I don’t like milk… it’s more on I don’t like the person who’s giving it to me.” I actually love milk but I don’t want her to find out. I’ve got to keep my mysterious image somehow!
“Would you prefer if I cease to exist then?” She arched a brow. Oh she’s being sarcastic with me. As a sarcastic person myself, I know that we’re bound to clash with each other.
“Can I ask why you seem to be disgusted by me?” She added.
“You’re trying to pry into my life.” I rolled my eyes as I drank my milk.
“I just want to know more about you, Maver. So that I can figure out how to help you.”
“No one can really help you but yourself. Same goes for you can’t trust anyone but yourself.” I calmly replied.
“That your personal motto?” She asked.
“You could say that. Look, this conversation is going nowhere! Can we just call it a day?” What a bore.
“Okay, fine. I’ll just wait for you to open up by yourself then.” She closed her notebook.
“Well, good luck with that, Ms. Bishop.” I got up and stretched my arms before walking out the door.
I don’t really like talking about myself in front of a stranger.
*CLEMENTINE’S POV*
As promised, we had our delayed brainstorming meeting the following day with just the CEO and the manager.
“We could’ve just hanged out at the office, you know. This place looks expensive.” We were fine dining at a French restaurant for lunch.
“Nonsense! A change of scenery might help us think better. Plus, we rarely go out on a date!” Ash gushed.
“This isn’t a date.” I stated seriously.
“Tomato-tomato.” He said the fruit out loud in different pronunciations.
“Whatever, let’s just start with our first case, Forrest.” I got straight to the point.
“Yes, Mr. Roche. How is he again?” Ash asked.
“Well, aside from dozing off midway our session, I think he’s very likable because he’s easy to handle. The parent complaint is harsh though because the dad wants his son to wake up from his dream and get on with his life but isn’t having a dream a good thing? I just don’t get the parent’s perspective on this…” I scanned my notes.
“That is kind of brutal. I can’t believe Mr. Roche wants to kill his son’s dream, unlike my folks who are funding my dream.” My boss sighed out loud as he shook his head in disapproval.
“So what can we do about it?” Nothing really comes to mind as a solution for this one.
“What’s his dream?” Ash asked.
“To become a professional photographer.”
“Okay. We could, um, let Forrest prove his father wrong. All we need to do is support him in order for the guy to achieve his dream and then his father can suck it.” Ash snapped his fingers together.
“Easier said than done. I mean, it’s a good scheme and all but how exactly do we support a freelance photographer in becoming a big shot photographer?” We need to discuss the details.
“I don’t know yet but I have a good feeling about this. It’ll come to us so let’s just skip to the next case for now.” Ash took a sip from his wine glass.
“Okay, up next is your cousin.” I flashed him a look of disdain.
“You probably think the guy is too much to handle, right?” Ash chuckled.
“It probably runs in the family.” I mockingly smiled at him.
“Ooh, I love it when you go all sarcastic on me. Such a turn on!” Ash teased.
“Could you just personally handle his case? You know him better than I do anyway.” I tried to push Levin Cole to him.
“I thought you liked challenges? Don’t worry, you’ll get along with him eventually like you did with me. Anyway, his mom wants him to stop having virtual girlfriends who are 3D in nature. This is easier to solve because we can always hook him up on blind dates with actual girls.” Ash suggested.
“That’s smart but the real problem is his awful personality. I don’t think any girl could stand his overwhelming ‘charms’ based from my experience.” I couldn’t help but be sarcastic.
“You’re right. We should do dating simulations first!” Ash seemed ecstatic over this.
“That’s good enough. Moving on to Seth Montgomery. His complaint is that he thinks he might be a sociopath…”
“Oh, the pretty boy. Don’t refer him to a psychiatrist just yet. It’s just self-diagnosed anyway plus most mental health issues stems from a problematic household.”
“His parents are divorced but he didn’t really seem to care over that fact.” I read my notes.
“Either he’s pretending not to care or he doesn’t even realize that he does care about it. Let’s dig deeper on his psyche.” Ash suggested. For some reason, he’s really good at this.
“I am on it. Okay, last troublesome fellow is Maverick Daniels. How do you know him anyway?”
“Just a lucky find I guess. A diamond in the rough.” Ash grinned.
“What? You’re saying that you’re sponsoring in random now?”
“Maybe. I met his aunt in a dating app and we ended up talking about her nephew’s tragic life story for some reason… makes me want to adopt the poor guy instead.” Ash pouted.
“First of all, Maver is not a stray dog that you can just pick up on the streets and make him your pet and secondly, his aunt is single?” I had a feeling she was married.
“No, she’s definitely married.”
I don’t even want to get in on that topic.
“I figured Maver has some serious trust issues when it comes to adults. I don’t really blame the guy though. His aunt’s complaint is to tame the poor teen. Let’s face it, he’s in his rebellious phase right now.” He can’t be tamed.
“Ophelia stated that Maverick has been in his rebellious phase ever since he was five. That’s when his parents died in a car accident.” Ash said.
“Oh. Perhaps we should figure out why he is totally withdrawn then.”
“Yeah and to do that, you need to gain his trust first.”
“Like I said, easier said than done.” I grimaced at the thought.
