A time to discuss

Liora’s pov Darious checked if there was any one in the passage before shutting the door behind him. “What the hell are you doing, Liora?” He asked with a curious but disappointed look on his face. “Take a guess, Darius,” I said with the intention of pushing him aside but he firmly held onto me. “Let me go!” “Why now? You could’ve left two months ago, hell, you could’ve left after the wedding. So why now? What are you unhappy with that didn’t bother you two months ago? Is it because of Selene’s pregnancy? Are you unhappy that she’s welcoming a bundle of fresh joy into her life?” “Don’t be ridiculous, Darius! How the hell would I be sad that my own sister is pregnant? Don’t you see how happy she is?” I grunted while breaking from his grasp. Darius blocked the door with his huge figure. It was clear that he didn’t want to let me go. I simply wanted to leave without alerting anyone but if I continued to fight with Darius and cause a scene, Selene would find out about my plans of departure. “Clearly you can’t,” he said angrily. “Huh?” “I said, clearly you can’t see how happy she is because everybody can. How can you leave just a few days after Selene had found out about her pregnancy? What legacy are you meant to leave by doing that? Think of what she’ll think about you, Liora! You’re hell bent on criticizing yourself that you’ve forgotten the actions you feel would do justice is only harming your loved ones. Have a sit, Liora,” Darious reached for the jug on my table and poured me a glass of water. I calmly sat down to listen to what he had to say so I can tell him what I also had in mind. “Why are you so eager to leave and why now of all times? There’s been countless opportunities to do so, why now?” He questioned again. “Now you want to hear what I have to say? It seems you’re considerate after all.” “Just talk. I’m sure you don’t want to hurt your sister because you love her.” “I’m fed up. Yes, Darius I’m fed up. Don’t you look around you? Can’t you notice that things have changed? Are you even feeling an ounce of guilt at all or am I the one killing myself over here?” I asked with teary eyes while recalling the love Selene had shown me the past few months I spent with her. “Selene is a wonderful person. She’s the type to put the people she loves before herself. She’s the most selfless person I’ve come across in my life and whenever I look at her face, I recall the injustice we did against her. I can’t put it into words how heavy my heart is right now. Every single time I come up with a plan to confess the secret before her, she shows me how selfless she is and how fragile her heart can’t be and then my heart just melts and then I lose the courage built up to tell her and look where it has kept us, Darius? She’s now pregnant! She’s pregnant with the same man who had s*x with her sister two days before marriage. How does that story sound to you?” I had already started to shed tears while saying all of this. I was crying at how pathetic of a person I was, I was crying at how low I could stoop for money and with how much money I’ve controlled in this two months and the time I’ve spent with wealthy people, I realize that money isn’t everything .The people most of us poor people look up to are just plain jerks that thinks they control the world because they have something another person doesn’t. Darius was silent with his head facing the ground. At least that made me a little glad to see that he felt guilty for his wrong deeds. “Look, Liora…” he took a long sigh. “I know that I’m not the best person to speak on how much guilt a person is to feel before he or she can move on or confess. If I speak on what I believe, you’ll definitely call me a narcissist. I feel guilty everyday. When I…when I touch Selene or hug her, I feel the warmth of your body and you might think or say that’s a creepy way of feeling guilt but I can't change it,” he continued. “It pains my heart that I had to take such a bold step before getting married to your sister, it hurts me, it really does. And you might think of me as the type of person to sleep around with multiple women and all sorts of things but I’m really not like that. That day was the first time I’ve been to the strip and believe it or not, you had my first time.” “I’m sorry, what?” My eyes went bright in shock. Suddenly, my perception about Darius changed just after one speech. He was a virgin before paying me for s*x? I used to think of him as the type of rich business man that pretends to people around that know him and actually has a wild personality in secret. Then why'd he come to me at the reception and tell me to forget what happened between us? He let out a nervous scoff while hiding his face. “Believe it or not it’s your choice but that’s the truth. Going there and doing what I did two days before my wedding wasn’t quite the thrill either. Let’s just say it was a decision to…” He paused while his eyes tweaked. He wore a sad expression, I could tell he was remembering something he didn’t like. “Then why did you make up your mind to marry my sister?” I quizzed curiously. “You can’t understand,” he got up on his feet and was about to leave. “I hope you can understand what I’ve said today and try to rethink your decisions.” “You’ll have to tell me—” Selene stormed through the door while panting.
