Liora’s pov
The heaviness of her slap almost brought me to my knees.
“I forbid what you just said, you laggard and you should forbid it as well because even the heavens and devils in hell would do the same. You’re not a Blackwood and you’ll never be!” The tone of her voice drifted from soft to loud.
Suddenly, everyone I’d been searching for all came out when I received that slap. My hand was still on my reddish cheeks while my eyes was fixated on hers.
Her slap was indeed louder than my voice. Selene and Darius showed up in a flash. In fact, I think everybody was present. I could even sight the gardener with one eye.
“You’re not a Blackwood!” She yelled in rage.
“Mum, what the hell do you think you’re doing?!” Selene yelled as well as she ran towards me.
Mum? Selene had told me a while back that her mum was sweet but she wouldn’t have approved my stay here. From what my eyes are seeing today, she looks like she has a grudge against me.
“You dare bring her into this house for what?!”
“To feel what it’s like to have a sister!” Selene countered. “How could you hide the fact that I had a sibling and raise me all by yourself , leaving her to fend for herself?!”
“And she turned out to be a stripper? That’s not as respectable a job you think it is. She didn’t work hard for nothing. No struggles, just stand on a pole and men throw your feeding and rent money. She chose the easiest route and that’s not the kind of person I want in my abode. Get her out, Selene,” she said the last line with a whispering tone.
Selene’s mother tried to grab me with intentions of throwing me out but Selene confidently stood between us. “I can’t do that mum. She’s a Blackwood as well. I don’t care if you like it or not. We share the same blood!”
“You don’t! You don’t! You Do Not Share The Same Blood As Her, Selene!” She exclaimed while buring her nails into her hair. “Her blood has been tainted by him! That despicable man, Selene. Look at her eyes. Look at that stupid face of hers! She doesn’t have my blood, she has his! You look exactly like my 26 years of pain.”
She clicked her tongue in anger while staring directly into my eyes. I looked at her and then at Selene. Where do I jump in? This is the first time in my life that I’m genuinely speechless. I can’t come up with anything to say to defend myself.
“Thanks for bringing back that pain, Selene. I really appreciate it. And this longing for a new sister is probably new. Just like your obsession with toys when you were still a kid. You’ll grow over it and she’ll be the one to suffer. Take my advice and get rid of her this moment,” Selene’s mother concluded.
I finally let go of my hurting cheek and cleared my throat before facing Selene.
“I think this is where I leave, Selene. It’s been nice staying and spending time with you. I’ll get my things and get out of your hair,” I said with an unsettling smile on my face.
I’ve just been embarrassed so I didn’t bother to raise my voice or pick a fight.
“Stay where you are, Liora! You’re not going anywhere!”
“We can’t keep this up if the owner of this house objects—”
“Shutup, Liora! I’m your older sister and I have right to make some decisions for you and this is one of them. I’m putting my foot down to make sure you’re not leaving here. And as for you, Mrs Blackwood, you can go ahead and print your name on a block of gold and add chains to it so you can wear it wherever you go. You can keep the name to yourself. My sister and I are leaving.”
“What are you talking about, Selene. Surely you’ve not lost your mind, right?” I asked with a concerned expression.
“Yes, Liora. If you consider me a mad woman because I choose to live in a house where my sister is being insulted and thrown out, then I accept that name. I’ll go pack my things and yours so we’ll be on our way. I hope there’s an open spot for one more stripper because all of this ass isn’t going to waste,” Selene concluded and was about to go upstairs.
My eyes was fixated on Selene as these words came out from her mouth. No one had ever stood up for me in my last twenty four years on earth. I was seriously about to tear up.
“Selene!” Mrs Blackwood. “The laggard is speaking more sense than you here. Are you out of your mind. Leave all this flashy speech and throw her out so we can continue the way we used to live.”
Selene grabbed me by the wrist and began to walk to the front door with a bitter look on her face. “I don’t care about belongings anymore because they were bought with your money. Since you’re so proud of this money you’ve built, use them to get yourself another daughter. After all, money can buy everything.”
“Selene stop! Why’re you fighting so much for that stripper? I’ve never seen you so confident before. What has gotten into you?!” Mrs Blackwood yelled with a confused expression on her face.
“Yes, this is how I look protesting for what I long for!” Selene responded boldly.
Selene kept heading straight towards the front door. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. The butler didn’t intervene, Darius didn’t either and from the look on her face, she didn’t care for anyone’s opinion at that moment.
“She can stay here but she better not bring that face of hers close to me because you’d be getting ready to send me to jail for good because of what I’d do to her.”
