Liora’s pov
“What…” Selene glanced at the loaded bag on the ground and then at me. “What’s going on? I-I was hearing yelling. Is everything alright?”
“Everything’s fine, Selene, you don’t need to worry about anything and if you don’t believe me, you can ask Liora. At least you can take her word for it,” Darius left a kiss on Selene’s cheek before heading out.
Selene immediately rushed to me. She stared from head to toe, checking out the clothes I wore and my packed back.
“The necklace…why aren’t you wearing it? Is it broken or are you just tired of wearing it,” I could feel the hurt in her voice.
Darius might be right. Leaving like this would hurt Selene. I won’t run away from my problems just because they’re stacking up.
“It’s none of that, Selene. I’m fine now. You don’t need to worry about me,” I said with a genuine smile.
Selene tied her arms around me, giving me a warm hug. “Don’t hesitate to tell me when you feel it’s too much for you to handle.”
Selene and Darius had left so I sat back down on my bed while staring at my packed bags. Selene didn’t ask where I was going because she knew what her mother is doing was enough to drive me out of the house.
I took a deep sigh, again, I didn’t keep to my words. I quickly got dressed for the office and left.
I arrived at the office to experience the same atmosphere I meet on the last day of every month. Yes, it’s payday and everyone is minding their words around me. Money really does make the world go around. Even the receptionist didn’t say a word to me when I arrived.
I had to pass by the reception desk five more times just to irritate her but I didn’t get a reaction out of her. Such hypocrites. They bend wherever money goes.
I clicked my tongue and left to go and continue my work. After some time, I welcomed a few workers I had employed to widen the width of the pool. I want it to be able to take thirty adults.
Most people coming to the hotel only use the room and very few use the swimming pool so I want to increase it in hopes that they might be interested in it.
“Madam! Madam!” Sarah ran to me at the swimming area where I was telling the workers exactly what I needed.
“What is it? And why’re you running at a place like this? If you fall and break your skull, the hotel won’t support your medical bills, j just wanted to remind you about that,” I said with an evident scowl.
The morning sun had started to get to me. I didn’t want to leave the workers and head to my office because they might do whatever they feel like doing and not in the way I want.
“Madam, look at this! Look at this quickly!” Sarah yelled.
I had no other choice but to check out the t****k video she so badly wanted to show me.
“That blogger that visited yesterday is defaming and telling lies about the hotel? She told us yesterday what she saw and that she’s going to leave an honest review about the hotel but what is she saying now?” Sarah panicked while showing me the video.
Sarah was telling the truth. This little witch is saying the exact opposite of what she talked about here. She checked the hotel and took videos and pictures while complimenting the workers and our quality of Maintenance.
“How could she do something so cruel? This is plain wickedness but what could she gain by doing this? Does raining insults at someone’s business grow her page?” Sarah quizzed furiously.
“What is there to gain from making these kinds of videos? Money maybe?” I asked in curiosity.
“But it didn't get much engagement. Either she did it because of her personal grudge or there’s someone behind pulling the strings.”
“Hmm… you’re suddenly sounding smart today, Sarah. You’re finally putting that philosophy degree to use,” I chuckled as Sarah winced behind me.
I didn’t care one bit about a kid making a video or two insulting and defaming my business. We still get visits from people as renounced as the president and so many others.
And if she meant every word she said, then there would have been a threat to our human service certificate but there wasn’t. Sarah might be right about a third party pulling strings from behind the scenes.
I didn’t have the time to rack my brain today. Today was pay day and it was going to be a very long day.
As I predicted, it was long, boring and stressful. We have a lot of staff in the hotel and I made sure to pay every last one of them before checking out. I finished working by 9pm in the night.
“You’re still here? And here I was thinking I was the only person still present in the office,” I said to Matthew who stood at the gate waiting for me to finish up. The other guards had gone home but he didn’t.
“Of course I’m still here, ma’am. You even paid me that start working a few days ago. I have to be here no matter what because it’s my duty. I don’t care if you finished your work at 12am, I would still be here waiting,” he said confidently.
“Where was this determination when working for the police force?” I said to myself with a whispering tone. “You can lock up and go home, Matthew.”
He saluted and began to lock the gates. Since I didn’t arrive at the office with any driver, I drove myself back home.
Unfortunately for me, I didn’t check if my tank had any gas in it before moving so my car gave up 30 minutes to the mansion. So why not leg it out?
The problem was that the next street I entered was surprisingly filled with cars for some reason.
