A better tomorrow

Liora’s pov I jolted up from bed followed by a loud yawn. Moving my hands from right to left trying to open the door to my bathroom so I could take a shower and go to the strip club. With my eyes closed, my muscle memory was supposed to have detected that the door wasn’t here anymore. But since when do bathroom doors disappear from their original position or have they been removed because I didn’t fully stay last months . I finally opened my weary eyes. My vision was fixated on the wall before me. I wasn’t a morning person so I’m always like this every morning. Nevertheless, I have to prepare and go get today’s pay. If I’m correct, today’s Monday and the end of the month. Joe must’ve gotten his salary and is on his way to the club. I have to quickly get ready so I’d be the one to catch his eyes. I turned around and was about to scream when I realized this wasn’t my house. It all came to me suddenly. I had agreed to stay in Selene’s mansion for the meantime. No wonder I didn’t wake up and immediately start stretching my hands and legs. My former bed was a tough foe, causing me to stretch my back after breaking them. The bed in this palace was marvelous. I lazily jumped back on the bed. It was as fluffy as Cotton candy. For today I didn’t have to worry about leaving for the strip club. Today I don’t have to worry about climbing up on a pole and dancing with everything I’ve got because my life depended on it. Working as a stripper, I never had free time to go out with friends or do things people my age do. The biggest reason I’ve not considered dating or marriage. Besides, who would want to date or marry a stripper? Living in Selene’s home shouldn’t stop me from going out and making money for myself. I might be in her care, but I still need money when I’ve made up my mind to leave. Nothing wrong with staying in another persons house and working for yourself. I was about to head for the bathroom when I heard a knock on the door. It must be Selene. I need to tell her the decision I just made. I was brought up to work for whatever I want. I’m not a free loader. I opened the door and was immediately greeted by a servant. She immediately placed my food on the table in my room, greeted me and left. “What the…” I immediately opened the door and called out to her. “Hey! Come back here! Why’re you in such a hurry? Is there any problem?” “No, miss Liora. I was ordered to serve you your food and leave immediately without disturbing your sleep. It seems like I’ve done the opposite. My apologies, miss Liora,” the servant gestured a respectful bow before I ordered her to leave. I shook my head and was about to close the door again when I heard another knock. For someone that was ordered not to disturb me, you’re really pushing my buttons, dear servant. “What do you want again?” I asked angrily while opening the door to see that it was Selene now. “What a surprise. Come in quickly, you shouldn’t have to knock. Who restricts a princess from entering her palace.” “Good morning, Liora. How was your night and how’s your morning going? Notice any changes at all?” Selene asked excitedly. “Changes? A lot. More than you expect. For starters, my back and legs don’t hurt from lying on my bed. And for the first time, I’m not too worried about jumping up and going to the club to get daily bread. After all, I don't need rent to stay in this palace.” “I’m glad you’re seeing differences from your old and new life, Liora. I’m about to go on my morning jog, why don’t you join me? It’s a great way to stay in shape and a great way to start your day,” Selene said with a wide grin on her face. “Just before you start involving me to partake in your lifestyle, I need you to remember that I’m still a stripper. I’ll be going to the strip club today to make money for myself. I don’t think doing anything public with me will be good for your image. I just wanted to let you know—” Selene interrupted me by placing her hand over my mouth. I threw my vision to her to see a gloomy look on her face. “Never repeat such words again, Liora. You’ve left your old life. I thought I had told you yesterday that I’m introducing you to a new path. A path that befits your personality. You don’t have to continue such self demeaning jobs. I wish you all the good things in life. I want you to know that. I’ve already found a job for you, so you better stop thinking about climbing another pole,” Selene concluded with a serious look on her face. “Aye aye, Captain. Whatever you say, I guess,” I imitated a salute and headed to the bathroom. “I apologize if you feel I’m too controlling. I never wanted to come off so strong, Liora. I even practiced how I was going to tell you all this. I’m sorry if you feel hurt by my words,” Selene apologized. “And you don’t need to shower. You can do that after the jog.” And just like that, I was introduced to the princess lifestyle as well as the exclusive princess treatment. Every morning I brush and go out with Selene for a jog. After that, we have breakfast and head to work. Selene got me a job as the manager of one of the Blackwood's famous hotel. It just felt like yesterday I tried to chase the old butler because he seemed shady at first, but today I’m living the life I never expected. My life had turned around for the better because of Selene. Everything’s been going smooth, except for one thing. I still haven’t seen my period after a month. I should just assume that it’s adjusting to a new environment.
