Chapter Twenty

Elizabeth was pleasantly surprised the following morning when a note from Charles was delivered. She smiled as she read it, remembering the wonderful time she’d spent in his company a few nights earlier.
“You look very happy,” Paul commented from his end of the breakfast table.
She stood up, having finished her meal. “I have just been invited to go shopping with a friend.”
“Ah!” He gave a little laugh. “Well, I hope you have a wonderful time.”
“Thank you,” she said. She gave his shoulder a little squeeze of affection on her way out of the room. She would spend the morning reading and deciding what to wear for her afternoon outing, she thought on her way up to her drawing room.
