Chapter Thirty ~May 31~ Penelope was at sixes and sevens the following morning. She paced this way and that and simply could not settle down. Duchess had paced with her, the dear pup, but even she could do nothing to calm her mistress. Penelope had tried to eat but had no appetite. She tried to sit and read but couldn’t concentrate. Even her knitting couldn’t distract her. She couldn’t go out for her regular walk with Duchess, she just couldn’t imagine facing anyone from society, and she couldn’t risk missing Charles.
