Chapter 23With a muted groan, Nyles opened his eyes. He was lying on hard ground, his hands tied in front of him, and he was blindfolded. The cloth was tied so tightly that it was impossible for him to work it free. I need to wait a little. My hands are shaky, and my fingers tingle too much. The sound of voices reached his ears and he allowed his body to go limp. Let’s see if I can work out where I am and who has me held as their prisoner. “Is he conscious?” The voice sounded familiar, but Nyles couldn’t place it.
