Chapter 33When Rashmi arrived to sit with Sadiq, Nyles nodded at his friend before he crept away, his bodyguard no more than a couple of steps behind him. After a quick stop at his quarters to bathe and change, Nyles made his way directly to the dining room.
At one time, he would have strolled there, admiring the palace’s art and architecture. Now he was acutely aware of the raised tensions. Security was high. Guards stood at the ends of hallways, bowing stiffly as Nyles strode past.
It seems there are more men now than when I last walked along here. Jewel wasn’t exaggerating when he said Kasim was taking no chances.
There were even guards in front of the dining hall. On entering, Kalil remained by the door while Nyles took his place beside Jewel.
Kasim looked up and gave a grim smile.
