ANNATORIA “Married?” I tossed that question at Darius once we were in his office, the glass walls sealed and the door closed to avoid extra ears. “Why would you lie about that?” “Annatoria.” Gently, he reached for my hand and pulled me to sit on a closeby couch. “Reason with me.” Though reluctantly, I eventually sat. “Regardless of how good I hide it, my attraction to you can’t help but slip out.” The greenish part of his eyes glinted with the hope that I would understand him. “You saw back there, didn’t you? They were curious because they noticed things.” “So, lying was the only way to tackle that problem?” His lie pressures me because I believe that lies often reflect a little bit of truth. If a part of him already sees a future where we are married, that worsens everything. Because
