Reggie Trullo released the dashboard, slowing the machine down. He laid out his left hand to operate the shovel and rested his right hand on the knob that would later make the shovel run. All the two men had to do now was wait for the robots to be within range of the bulldozer. Then Reggie could strike and knock out the two giant robots.
Djay Laro looked tense through the back window. “On three,” he said, slowly counting down.
On the third count Reggie had the excavator rotated as quickly as possible; the shovel swung dangerously close to the first robot but did not hit it. The pilot saw an opportunity to slow down just in time. Although the robot was now staggering, it did not fall over.
“f**k!” Laro cried. “Back. Go back! Let’s do it again!”
