Dante watched amused as his secretary's face turned red. She was trying to figure out how she had ended up in his room as his fiancée. The plan was to conquer him to make him pay, not to help him solve some kind of mess.
Everything was definitely going wrong. He hoped Darius wouldn't ruin what little progress he had made.
Meanwhile, in his room, Darius couldn't sleep no matter how hard he tried. He decided to go for a walk. Perhaps Vane would decide to leave the room, and he could talk to her.
"Hey! Where are you going? If you're thinking what I think you are, forget it. Go back to your place and get some sleep," David noticed that Darius was about to open the door. He thought he might go to meet his sister, and he wouldn't allow that.
"I can't sleep. I'll go for a walk." The last thing he needed was to ask for permission to leave the room.
"I wasn't born yesterday. Look at my age; I'm older than you. Therefore, I know exactly where that darn walk will lead you."
Darius rolled his eyes; he didn't want to argue with anyone at that hour. So, without further ado, he returned to bed to try to sleep. What a bunch of annoying siblings Dina had.
From the moment he found out who Vane's target was, he began investigating her family. Fortunately, there was a girl among them. He planned to win her over to be close to his sister. This way, he could defend her in any situation. His mother and grandmother believed he was on a business-related trip.
In Vane's room, the girl had sat down on a chair, pretending to read a book. Dante thought she was strange and felt too tired. Soon enough, he was asleep. Realizing this, Vane approached the bed. Slowly, she lay down beside him, watching him sleep. His breathing was rhythmic and calm. Unable to resist the temptation, she raised her hand to lightly touch the muscles on his chest with her fingers.
As she did so, she sighed deeply; her boss looked too good. At that moment, Dante opened his eyes and stared at her. He had a very light sleep.
"Don't do that again. You're playing with fire," he said, gripping the girl's arm tightly to move it away from his body.
"It was an insect, just an insect. It was standing on your chest," Vane said, trying to convince him. The girl's face turned red with embarrassment; she had been caught in the act.
Dante raised an eyebrow, unsure if the girl was telling the truth or lying. His initial impression was that she was caressing him, and perhaps he had misunderstood.
"Are you sure it was an insect?" he asked, looking at her intently.
"I wouldn't lie. It was a big insect, and it flew away," she replied, turning to follow the supposed path the insect had taken, trying to make her version more believable.
Vanessa lay down and covered herself from head to toe. Only she had thought of doing that, although she could still feel the warmth of his body and the hardness of his chest on her fingers.
She instinctively bit her lip, feeling a terrible heat, a burning sensation she hadn't experienced before. She noticed Dante's breath was labored; perhaps he was upset. Little did she know that the sweet aroma emanating from his body was tormenting him.
In the morning, Vane woke up feeling something heavy on her body and something strange on her leg. Upon opening her eyes, she realized Dante was on top of her, deeply asleep. His arm was on her chest, one of his legs on her stomach, and that strange, hard thing was unmistakably present.
Undoubtedly, her boss had morning arousal. Her cousins had told her about it, making her nervous at the thought. She stayed still, unable to move, as she felt him shift his arm. She closed her eyes, pretending to continue sleeping. She would die of embarrassment if he noticed she had realized his morning state. Dante seemed very comfortable, but she was not.
Dante opened his eyes, startled to realize he was practically on top of the girl. He noticed his morning arousal and immediately moved away, paying attention to the girl. She seemed to be sleeping.
He got up and went into the bathroom. Vanessa let out the breath she had been holding. Whenever she was very nervous, she had the habit of holding her breath.
Inside the bathroom, Dante turned on the cold water, hoping it would be freezing to resolve his issue. However, it was impossible. Every time he closed his eyes, he felt the warmth of the girl's body, and his arousal worsened.
So he had to do what he had to do to fix it. He closed his eyes and imagined that it was she who was caressing him.
Minutes later, he came out of the bathroom. Vanessa continued to pretend to be asleep. He stood beside her, observing her for a moment. She was very beautiful; he couldn't deny it. She had an air of innocence that attracted him immensely.
He left the room to go downstairs and found Darius in the kitchen, sipping on coffee. From his expression, Dante realized he hadn't slept well; he looked tired.
"A rough night?"
"Something like that. I see you haven't rested either."
"Sleeping next to a beauty and not being able to touch her is not easy. Not easy at all," Darius made an effort not to show his displeasure.
"But she's your fiancée."
"That's right, but if my mother finds out we did something inappropriate before the wedding, she'll kill us, ha, ha, ha. So, I prefer not to take any risks."
Darius felt a weight lift off his shoulders. For the time being, his sister was safe. He didn't realize he was the same kind of brother as the Damasco siblings.
"It's still early; the others are asleep," Darius said to keep the conversation going.
"Yes, I imagine they'll wake up late."
"It's normal after wine and dancing."
"What do you do?" Dante couldn't resist the need to question him.
"I'm a businessman."
"In which industry?"
"Real estate."
"So, Armand Davons," Dante whispered as he searched for that name on his phone.
Darius, being a true Coldwell, had everything well-prepared, so he found the supposed page of Davons Realty.
"Here's the page for your real estate business. I'll recommend you to our friends; after all, we'll be brothers-in-law."
"Thank you." If Dante thought he would find something unusual in the real estate business, he was mistaken. It was surprising what a large amount of money could achieve in a short time. Things seemed to magically appear practically out of nowhere—money was a powerful magician.
Dante made himself a coffee and sat down with Darius. Shortly after, Dina came downstairs and stood behind Darius, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"To what extent has he interrogated you?" the girl said with certainty.
Dante looked at Darius to see if he would give him away. In his world, they didn't tolerate those who couldn't keep a secret.
"No, we were just talking about most people waking up late because they danced and drank," Darius said.
"I think you're lying. I know my brother too well. Being a nuisance is a Damasco family trait."
Darius laughed at her comment. He had already thought the same thing but couldn't express it so directly.
"It's not funny," Dante said, not finding it amusing.
"I'm sorry; I'm not making fun. It made me laugh to hear that Dina uses the same words as my sister."
"Well, then all men are a nuisance as brothers," Dante said.
"I think we're like that because we try to protect our sisters."
"Men, only you understand each other."
"Uh-huh, women give us lessons in that department," Dante said, laughing.
Gradually, the kitchen filled up. The cooks arrived a few minutes later and immediately began preparing breakfast for the family and guests.
Vane came downstairs shortly after, having filled the tub. She needed to relax. She had put on a short light-colored dress, a polo style with short sleeves, and comfortable sandals. Her hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, giving her the image of a schoolgirl.
Dante noticed that she looked very cute. He didn't like that as soon as she approached, Darius stared at her. Instinctively and without thinking, he pulled her towards him and sat her on one of his legs, then planted a kiss on her.
Vane was surprised by his reception. She knew it was an act for their supposed engagement, but the kisses he gave felt very real. Perhaps it was because she wasn't an expert in such matters. Darius, who was watching them, just frowned. He didn't like it at all.
