Chapter Thirteen Hitler didn’t announce his intentions. On the 10th May just when the Parisians were settling to the final arrival of spring, they got the German army as well. The Maginot line stood proudly before them as well as much of the French Army. Massive guns pointed at Germany threatening to destroy any attacking force. The Nazis solved the problem by going around the fortifications, via the heavily forested area of the Ardennes. By the 21st May the Germans had pushed the allies back to a defensive line around Calais, Terneuzen to Abbeyville. It was then that Fred panicked and packing their cases the three of them plus Arni took the lorry north hoping to find an escape route somewhere.
