The young Luna's knew exactly why they had come. Betty and Rita prepared dinner before they arrived. Czar was excited about the possibility of meeting his mate. Zion was a nervous wreck though. When the first arrived Czar knew she was not his in seconds. He didn't even bother staying around. He quickly excused himself after pointing out how fowl her scent was 'She smells like mango. I hate mango, later Champ.' Czar disappeared. So, Zion was left to entertain the princess alone. Lycans and some Alpha's can choose their mate. The bond is not as strong as the bond shared between true mates, but it can be done which is why Catherine was probably laying it on thick and trying way too hard to impress him. First by bringing up sports and fishing. Then by talking about the treaty that would be formed between the two packs.
"So, Catherine, you're not interested in waiting for your true mates." Zion asked.
"Well, I uh actually already found him." She said, blushing. Zion frowned a little at her words.
"I don't understand. Then why are you here?" Zion asked as Czar chimed in 'I can't wait to hear this'
"Well, he was not up to my standards, so I rejected him." She said flatly. Zion looked mortified.
'Ouch, knife to the heart, poor guy!' Czar laughed.
'So not funny Czar' Zion warned. He found nothing humorous about the situation.
"Are you finished eating?" Zion asked.
"Oh yes I'm stuffed." She lied because she had barely touched her food.
"Great then you can leave now." With that he pushed himself away from the table and walked away. Fred looked at Omar but neither said anything. Goober looked at the girl however and said, "That was the quickest meal I bet you ever had." Earning him an elbow to the side from his wife. Rita, trying to make things better, began to talk about anything to change the subject to draw attention away from the situation.
"Those mustard greens are good? They came fresh from the garden."
The princess simply excused herself and left.
Later that night his uncle, Fred and Goober joked about how awkward the moment was with him.
"Sorry guys I may have overreacted a little, but I just can't believe she rejected her mate, then admitted it." Zion tried apologizing.
"Maybe she had a good reason." Betty said softly. Everyone turned to look at her. Now she felt the need to explain.
"What could ever be a good reason to reject your mate?" Goober asked.
Betty laughed at this "You're kidding right?" When he did not respond she knew that he was serious. So, she looked at Zion "Goober was a d**k! When we were kids, he was a bully and as he got older, he never changed. I often wish I would have rejected him then maybe I would have had the joy of having grandbabies. Our son left long ago, he probably married for sure. He was always a handsome boy."
'This just got awkward' Czar said and Zion agreed he excused himself to his room, but he did feel bad now. He didn't give her a chance to explain. Her mate could have been a d**k just like Goober.

Connections
Zion's training was going great! About three weeks in, Omar realized that the kid was spectacular. Greater than any warrior he had ever trained. He picked up on every move he taught the first time it was then only a matter of perfecting it.
For three months he went through vigorous training for the majority of the day. His connection with his wolf Czar grew as well. They went on runs often surrounding the borders of the territory but as he advised, careful not to be seen.
Czar was a great hunter, to the point Omar asked him not to kill because they had no more room to store the meat. Czar urged Zion to push, with him there were no limitations.
Still when the call came in, he was completely unprepared.
"Omar, long time old friend."
"Brandon?" Omar hadn't heard from Brandon in ages. Since he himself retired years ago.
"Yes Buddy, how are you?" Brandon asked.
"Great! No reason to complain. So, is this a social call?" Omar asked.
"Well actually Omar I was wondering if you were still doing any private work?" The hairs on the back of Omar's neck stood up.
"No, I don't do any training anymore. Can't keep up with these younger pups, why do you ask? Are you needing someone to come in?"
"No, actually things are a little crazy around here. Off the record the council is in a bit of an uproar. Apparently, someone claims to have spotted a Lycan wolf roaming the woods."
Omar laughed, but when Brandon did not join in, he paused. "Are you serious"
"Yes I am. The council is terrified, so they are sending someone to track him."
"Oh, I doubt he will find anything. There is one pack that borders this territory."
"Yes, I know, we have a record of all the female Lycans, and none are supposed to be in that area. So, this is where he will begin. This new guy is… I don't, he gives me the creeps."
"Do I know him?"
"Probably not, the new guy the council doesn't even trust him. Only I and a few other members have met him. We give him the assignment and very little Intel otherwise, something's off about him."
"Where is he from?"
"The heavens if you ask him." Brandon blurted out.
"What?'
"Yeah, I know coo coo he is a hell of a warrior one of the best I have ever seen, and he is a great leader."
"Alright well if I hear anything I will let you know. Maybe try the red river pack."
"Will do. Omar good chatting with."
"Take it easy buddy."
As soon as he hung up, he mind linked Zion 'You have been spotted I just got a call from one of my buddies that work for the council. You've been spotted.'
'I know someone is watching us.'
Czar was not looking for a confrontation, but he immediately sensed the danger and began to growl.
'What is it?' Zion asked right as a force of power slammed into him knocking him several feet back.
'Czar what the hell was that?' Zion yelled but again before Czar could respond three black wolves surrounded him, and the battle began. They charged him at once, but they were no match for Czar strength and speed. He grabbed one. Wolf by the neck and slung him into another. The other black wolf bit at his hind leg but he jumped kicking him so hard he fell into a tree cracking it in half. By this time the other two were coming at him again. Czar charged right back at them. He grabbed one and bit, ripping his throat out then went for the other. The motion was so quick the other wolf cowered, and Czar grabbed him by the neck tossing him in the air when his body came down, he chomped down ripping his head from his body. It rolled landing before the feet of the last wolf. The wolf knew he was no match for Czar so with his tail tucked between his legs he ran to the woods for cover. 'There is a man instructing them Zion he's stalking us.'
'Let's handle this,' Zion said.
'Zion!'
'Where are you?'
'We are tracking him.’
'No Zion come back now!'
Czar growled he wanted to find the guy and rip him apart. 'Czar next time.'
With that they turned and headed back.
Heron was furious, just a few feet further and Zion would have fallen into his trap. The three wolves the council recommended barely got close to him, and the energy source he had thrown at the Lycan only stunned him temporarily. He did however know one thing the Lycan lived, Selene did not lie. Now he only had to track him and kill him before his twentieth birthday.
The second princess
He couldn't describe what it was like being unmated. He simply felt he was missing his core. He longed to know her and be near her. Janette was the second princess of Lycan descent introduced to Zion. She was definitely not one he would pick for a mate because she was different. Which he feared made him slightly shallow.
"How long have you been in the wheelchair?"
Zion asked.
"I can't remember not being in one."
"I guess it's a good thing you're the Alpha's daughter."
"Not really. My pack hates me, and they are pretty cruel. My mother is the only reason I was not put to death at birth. My father is trying to marry me off as quickly as possible, so I won't be a burden any longer. My mother died two years ago and since then my pack has been really difficult."
"That's horrible!"
"No not really they won't kill me just banish me and I think I would be happier living among humans. They are much kinder to people like me."
"It is rare to find someone in your predicament. Most ailments are healed once you get your wolf."
"My wolf did not come. I guess she didn't want to be stuck with me either."
Zion looked her over. She was actually quite pretty, almost exquisite.
"I'm sorry that happened to you. I just got my wolf and already I could not imagine life without him."
Janette seemed sad but she smiled anyway. He took a liking to her. He found her very easy to talk to. "Have you gone to any of the festivals to try to find your mate?"
"No, my mom, although she was sweet, she was a bit overprotective, and she feared I would not live through the rejection." Janette said, causing Zion to frown.
"Why was she so sure you would be rejected?"
"Well, my dad made me come. He was hoping that my Lycan blood would persuade you to look past my condition. Otherwise, he says I'd surely be rejected. No one wants a mate that can't walk."
Zion pulled a chair up in front of her. He leaned forward until their lips were almost touching "May I?" She inhaled as he slowly kissed her lips. No sparks, nothing. He was a little disappointed.
"I'm sorry but-"
"No Zion, it's okay. I think you are the nicest boy I have ever met."
"I think your parents are wrong. I think you are beautiful and if you were my mate Lycan or not I would have you and cherish you. Janette, will you do the honors of joining me for this year's festival."
"Me, Zion, you don't want to be seen with me!"
"Yes, I do. It would be an honor if you would escort me."
"Alpha people will talk."
"Let them Janette, it is an opportunity for us both. You will have a chance to meet your mate and possibly so will I. And if nothing else we will have enjoyed an evening amongst friends."
So, Janette and Zion quickly became friends. They spent hours on the phone chatting about anything and everything. Zion found her quite amusing. She was funny, always finding humor in things, and she actually had a lot of the same views on the workings on the way a pack should be run.
"Zion, I have never had any real friends. Thank you for being so nice to me. My father is so confused about our relationship."
"Is he being nicer to you?"
"Yes, but only because he thinks his daughter may be mated to you."
"I will come to pick you up around five is that okay."
"Yes, wonderful."
Zion arrived a few minutes early and to his surprise Janette was already ready. He was glad he didn't have to carry on small talk with her father. He picked her up and carried her to his car then placed her wheelchair in the back.
She looked so pretty in her pink dress. He still couldn't believe someone would mistreat such a dainty and beautiful girl.
"I'm so excited Zion. What if I meet my mate and he actually like me?" She said nervously
"How could he not?"
He was silent but he knew what she was thinking. "And if he does not and tries to hurt you in any way, I will allow my wolf to rip him apart. 'I'm with it.' Czar said in response before dismissing himself.
Zion was excited about seeing all his friends from his pack. So, when they pulled up, he linked Kevin 'We are here.'
'I still can't believe you brought sand to the beach.' Kevin said wearily.
'Be nice to her, she is sweet.'
Kevin showed up seconds later as he was getting Janette's wheelchair out. He went and introduced himself.
'Dude you weren't lying, she is gorgeous.'
"Hi, I'm Kevin Zion's future beta."
"Watch him Janette, he's a player."
"Dude bros before hos." Kevin said and Zion gave him a warning look.
"Jeesh, I was just kidding. I will be on my best behavior. May I?" he asked. She looked around him to Zion and he nodded. Kevin could be an asshole, but he knew his limits. He would never handle her inappropriately.
He lifted her gently and placed her in her chair. He even went as far as to pull her dress down further to help cover her. It did not go unnoticed by Zion. Nor did the fact that he stayed by her side the whole night. They had lots of fun playing the games and interacting with other packs but ultimately as the night began winding down, they all found themselves mate less. However, Janette was still pleased because now she had another friend. "Janette," Zion said "Kevin and I were thinking that maybe you could come and stay at Mystic Moon Pack. Surely life would be kinder for you there."
"We would look out for you until you met your mate." Kevin chimed in. Tears sprang to her eyes.
"I don't think anyone has ever been this nice to me. It would be nice to have friends." She said softly.
"Then it's settled as soon as my training is over, I will come and get you and we will return back to the Mystic Moon Pack together."
"And I will get a room prepared for you and build the ramp myself." Kevin said, smiling at her.
They dropped her off at her pack house.
And Kevin went back to his uncle's house with him to hang out.
"Kevin there are a few things you should know about me that I haven't told anyone just yet." Zion began.
"What is it bro you know you can tell me anything."
Well, it's about my wolf Czar, he is different from others."
"How so Zion?" Kevin asked
"Let me just show you." Zion began to strip, and Kevin followed his lead. Suddenly Zion's bones began to crack and elongate.
"f**k! f*****g f**k f**k!" Kevin yelled "you're a Lycan. Wait holy s**t dude are you… are you the Chosen?"
'My parents think that I am.' Zion said, morphing back into his human form.
Kevin could not stop smiling. "Dude I'm going to be the beta to the most powerful Alpha that lived!" Kevin was so excited he was bouncing.
"I wouldn't go that far man, but Czar is awesome as hell."
'Thanks Champ.' Czar said, 'let's go for a run, I want to meet his wolf.'
"Czar wants to meet your wolf Kevin, let's take a run.
