"This concludes the negotiations for the multinational medical device acquisition case." I removed my noise-canceling headphones in the simultaneous interpretation booth and cut the microphone power. The two stacks of documents on my desk went neatly into my briefcase. Over the past 2 years, I'd taken on plenty of medical conference interpretation jobs. I walked out of the booth and said goodnight to a few colleagues. In the restroom, I looked up at my reflection in the mirror. A plain silk scarf was tied at the side of my neck. 2 years ago, I had sliced out that mark with my own hands. After the wound healed, it left behind a hideous scar, thick and twisted like a centipede. But in this city, nobody cared what was hidden under a silk scarf. For 2 years, no one had called me Luna.
