Chapter 3–The clash

1048 Words
The night was growing old, still no sign of “Mr Pompous." The party was almost coming to end. Zara checked her wristwatch… huh! 11:35pm. Gosh, it's almost midnight. I have a lot of important things to think about rather than spending my precious time waiting for someone who has clearly stood me up for a meeting. He fixed himself… I'm not going to forgive you, Mr Adrian Cole, for wasting my time. You better watch your back … because I'll be coming for you. A familiar fragrance brushed her nose, a smell that felt like home. A scent she can never forget in this lifetime. A smell that held beautiful memories. She turned towards the door and there he was. Adrian Cole, walking towards her like he's on a runway show, the aura, domineering eyes. Zara was caught off guard for a moment. She was almost at the verge of leaving before he shockingly arrived… She breathed a sigh of relief with a subtle annoyance in her eyes… Mr Adrian Cole, what do you think I am? A lap dog? That you boss around and give instructions for it to wag its tails and carry it out? You scheduled an impromptu meeting today and here I was thinking highly of you as a business tycoon who does things strictly with due protocol, but you proved me wrong. If what you have to tell me isn't that important as I presume it to be, then do me a favor and leave the way. I have other better things to do with my night than waste it on you or anyone else. He stood still, one hand in his pocket and the other one holding his suit jacket by the shoulder. He smirked. Are you done with your nagging? Miss Zara, you know how much an elite gathering is for every business. You are also a business owner, you know how it's done… parties like this are not just for entertainment alone but for networking and building a strong reputation for one's company. Do I have to school you about it, Zara? Mr Adrian carry on. I'm truly being schooled by you. Wow, tell me more. Adrian sensed a subtle sarcasm. He cleared his throat. If you really want to be schooled and empowered properly. Go back to business school. Seems like you missed the “Networking and connection” lectures one time during school. Ah ha! Trust me, I'll take your advice on that. If you'll excuse me, I'll take my leave. Have a good night, Mr Adrian. I think this meeting is over and meaningless. Hold on! Don't attach much importance to yourself. You mean absolutely nothing to me. As for the meeting. I'll be brief about it. First off, congratulations on your milestone achievement. “Innovator of the year award” is not bad. Such things don't happen often. With a mocking tone. And? Is that all? No! You should be thankful I left my phenomenal fiancée all alone in the ballroom just to come and talk to you, Miss Zara. Phenomenon fiancée indeed! Then why are you here? You missed me so badly that you left everything for me, huh, Mr Adrian? Don't flatter yourself. Go straight to the point. What do you want from me? Why do you have to waste my time and yours if there's nothing important to say? Huh? That's enough, Miss Zara, don't you dare counter my presence as insignificant. You and anyone else know that I am a successful business entrepreneur and I do not make decisions because of fun or filmy reasons. I'll have my secretary email you concerning the remaining part of the agenda for this meeting. Well Miss Zara, I want to make a business proposal to you. The Cole group of companies is diversifying into the fashion business in addition to our already existing conglomerate. And as we know, footwear never goes wrong with fashion. Partnering with your company is a win-win situation. With the highly esteemed reputation of Cole's group of companies, your company gets to have an increase in the stock market and more visibility, which will yield maximum revenue if the collaboration is a success. Mr Adrian, there are a good number of footwear brands that would be overwhelmed and happy to collaborate with your company and Eclipse Heels isn't one of them. You can take your partnership elsewhere. Eclipse Heels is thriving perfectly well on its own. Zara Zara Zara… is this fear I sense or incompetency ? Because, as you've said, many footwear brands would be dying to be in your place receiving this life-changing partnership from Cole's group of companies. This is business, do not add emotions to it. Think logically, businesses are run to make a profit and what doesn't profit me is a waste of time. To answer your question, “No! I am not afraid or incompetent for this project and collaboration” because if I were to be incompetent, as you put it. I wouldn't have received the Innovator of the year award. You in fact know I'm very much qualified for the job, else you wouldn't have scheduled this impromptu meeting held in an unreserved VIP lounge in a hotel suite. Forward the email to me as you have said, and I'll look into it and then send you feedback. Fair enough. Don't keep me waiting, the contract may slip out of your hands if you delay in sending in your response. That would be all, Miss Zara, enjoy the rest of your night. Likewise, Mr Adrian. They both brushed each other's shoulders, ouch. Why are you so clumsy Zara? You badly want to have in touch with me? Don't get such thoughts in your head. In your wildest dream. Adrian smirked, Sure my lady, after you. No, you lead the way. Okay. If that's what you want… Huh ^_^! He really left. Such a dealbreaker. He's not a gentleman. Susan and him are a perfect match. Good riddance. Watch your back, Mr Adrian Cole, you have no idea what's coming for you. You've just laid a perfect red carpet for me to walk my way back into your life and company. You don't deserve happiness. ness. I'll destroy you!
